Oh deer
Thought about shooting my own turkey this year, but I don't think the people at either the grocery store or meat market would be very happy with me walking in with my shotgun. |
Hunting is always fun till you get something then the work begins.
|
Figured hunting at the grocery store would pretty much take care of most all the cleaning and dressing.
|
yeah but they really frown on shooting things in the store.

Have actually seen my Dad and a friend take fish out of the freezer at the grocery store, one would throw it to the other and he would put it in the basket. And they took turns. They even threw me a couple of packages. That way they could still tell everyone we caught all the fish. It was one of the very few times we didn't catch enough at the lake to feed the group.
Remember on year our company had a weekend fishing derby at lake texoma. Nobody hardly caught anything. Yet the next Friday the company hosted a big fish fry for all the employees and the families. Our family stayed at my Dad's friends cabin and we spent Monday thru Thursday fishing. Ended up catching enough fish to deep fry and feed the whole group on Friday. I sure scaled and filleted a LOT of crappie and sand bass. |

My brother loves hunting. He figures there have been over 100 deer carried home on the roof of his Westfallia VW camper. Mostly with bow and arrow. In Alabama the legal limit is high. He got 18 in one year and never came close to the limit. They eat a lot of venison.
I have just never cared for hunting. Its the camping part that I really hate. My parents REALLY got in fishing when I was in high school. Every teenager hates it when they come home from work after school and the parents are gone until Sunday afternoon. That was my fate for several years. Then they came home with lots of fresh lake fish I was forced to eat. It was a horrible childhood. Much like going to a pristine beach at Bellows Air Force Station all the time and spending a week at a time with the beach right outside the lanai. The beach was about 3/4 of a mile of pristine white sand and maybe a dozen people on a busy day. Yep, I was abused. |
I am with you on camping. I will only camp if there is something to kill aka hunting.
|
Last time I went "Camping" we partied in the woods with a big bonfire until everyone passed out. A couple people set up tents, but basically ended up not even using them. When we woke up we waited for the tents to be packed up, left the outdoors, and went to Denny's for breakfast.

Sounds like fun was had by all!

Going home tomorrow guys. See you Monday am bright and early from Tacoma!!!!!
|
My idea of camping is slow internet and a HDTV that is smaller than 36 inches. Oh and no cold beer available.
|
that's not camping its hell.

My brother has several good hunting spots in Alabama that are several hours drive from home. He prefers to go out the afternoon before in his VW camper. It does have a gas fired heater and running water so it is not too bad to camp in. He gets up at dawn and gets in a tree stand and waits for the deer to get close. He usually has several other guys come out in their VW campers and they all have a different direction to go into the woods.
He has gone out with primitive arms like his musket. He really prefers bow and arrow. I just buy my food per-packaged at the store or already prepared for me at a restaurant. I have had a 100% success rate at finding food at restaurants in all the years of trying. Sometimes it was not real good food, but I always managed to get some with no gunfire or arrows flying. |
