Morning all. It has been a week. I think Glens boss was here and was working me to hard. On top of 12 hours CAD days I still had a few hours each night to work on the "great mess" as we call it......

Sounds like fun.
We finally have fall weather. Highs in the 60s and low 70s. I ran a project the other day that was a little one, but high profit since it was in the DFW area. The Air Traffic controllers there are real jerks. We had to fly it up higher than we wanted, but we got it flown.

I went to the Porsche dealer and order a new key for my 911. The old one is pretty worn and it is getting to the point that I have to wiggle it some to lock or unlock the door or to get the ignition to work. The new one is cut from the vin number, so a brand new set of tips on the key.
I will still carry my old key and not the new one, as the new one is now the one with the light in the head and larger. I can take it to a locksmith and get a good duplicate made. I bet I can find a replacement key blank that doe not have the light. In all the years I have driven cars, I have never needed to replace one single battery, ever.

We were watching those storms when we were in Ohio.
Glad they weren't too bad!

It was a weird week for the storms. 23 tornadoes over a few days, and then a storm of just high sheer winds. Some areas south of us by 30 miles has some bad hail.
Tornadoes are ranked on the Fujita scale. https://www.weather.gov/oun/efscale If the tornado just his a empty field and tosses around a few hail bales, it gets a very low rating even if it was a big mean funnel. It is pretty complex. Some of what dropped funnels are called QLCS tornadoes and come from a line of storms and not the supercell as most do. The QLCS storms can just appear with little warning. The can see the line that is making them, and there is a warning that tornadoes can form and to take precautions. We had stuff like medications and my briefcase full of insurance papers ready to go to the cellar, but we never did because the storms were all south of us again. All of the network TV stations go to "wall to wall" coverage non stop, no commercials, just reports from RADAR, storm spotters. That can go on for many hours.

The smart thing I dad with my parents house FULL of stuff was have a professional come in and set up an estate sale. He sold stuff that I would have trashed. It is just staggering whet people will buy.
He went through every nook and cranny, even the attic. Pure trash he trashed, but if it had any possible value, he priced it and sorted it onto tables. He spent a week there working hard. He earned his 30% of the sale price.

yep that is what we are doing. The wife and her sister went thru it all to find family related stuff. We are letting them now go thru it to find stuff of value and toss or donate.

The family members went through the house a few times and gathered all the "stuff" we wanted. I ended up with all the historical family items like the three large boxes of family photos and items like old quilts and my great grandmother's wedding gloves. I used Ancestry.com to build a family tree, and scanned all the photos and posted them on the internet for all time. Many distant relatives have downloaded the photos of grandparents they had never seen a photo of.
One item was my mother's autograph book she started when she was 8. She of course had her sister, brother, parents, and school friends sign it and write a short note. It was a treasure but I feared that with no kids of my own, it would get tossed in the trash after my death. I sent it and many other items to my cousin who has three kids, and lots of grand kids and great grandstands. She thanked me profusely for that autograph book. To see her mom's writing, her grandmother and grandfather's personal thoughts and hand writing again was something she cried about for hours. It had no value to any non family member. She was beside herself when I sent her the quilt my great grandmother made for her grandmother. She said all of her granddaughters were just awed with it.

My wife had to deal with all that when her brother passed. The worst part was dealing with her mom's husband (not her dad) who thought it would be easier just to leave everything and let the bank foreclose on the house.

It is just a car, and parts can be made that are better than original. I am real glad it ain't mine and that I was not the one that crashed it.

Morning all. Once again its time to burn vacation days one at a time till the end of the year. The wife can't take anymore time off after the back to back kid trips and then her mom passing. So I will be taking one day off a week till the end of the year.

I have been getting a lot of spam designed for stupid people. Several businesses that I do no business with, or very little, suddenly are sending me a $50 gift certificate. All I have to do is click the handy link they provide. Wal Mart has sent several to me as a loyal shopper I deserve the gift they say. Since I have not set foot in a Wal Mart in 30+ years I think someone is lying. They all just go to the block sender list.
I was just out on the highway for an errand and suddenly smell that burning brakes or clutch smell. I was in the Elky so it was not my clutch, and my brakes are all in good order, but it made me tap my brakes to make sure they were not stuck on. I have to assume it was one of the 18 wheelers on the highway with a brake drum about to lock up. I just made sure there were non around me, and exited the highway. I have been next to a semi when a trailer wheel locked up, and he was all over the place. Dang scary sight. So many trucks are just not maintained as they should be. Cars are not much better, just less mass.

Driving home the other night from trivia we encountered the same smell. Never found out who was having trouble.

I saw another vehicle over near my destination just bellowing white smoke. Likely a blown head gasket, and they kept driving. Not for much longer I suspect. It was not a burning oil blue smoke, just white and no strong odor.
