Glen I have a Canon flat bed scanner that can do 35mm negatives and slides to digital photos. Do you know of one for home use that will do larger negatives?

GH85Carrera 10-29-2021 12:04 PM

Stijn!!

Many of the flatbed scanners just have a film holder, and that is what holds the negative in place.

The canon we had at work did ok scans for any size negative.

You likely can put any negative on it to scan but the hard part is to tape it down in place so it is flat.

I have not even looked at current scanners on the market as I have all my negatives scanned am I just shoot digital now. Mostly with my phone.

Yeah I will have to get one from the sister to try. She is looking to scan larger negatives than 35mm.

The Canon we had at work was pretty affordable, and it came with frames to hold film like 35 mm or 120 or 35 mm mounted film. It had a decent quality, but never would punch into the dark parts of a negative, the highlights of the image once it is a positive image. And the shadows were usually a bit muddy. Of course I was used to very high end scanners and I am a bit jaded. It is hardly fair to compare a $300 scanner to a 75 grand or more high end scanner.

The boss's wife made me drive her to Enid in the El Camino using my gas. We had to haul some shovels and gardening stuff to winterized he mom's flowerbeds. So I had to shovel up some plants, and put away hoses and slave away.

The winds were 40+ MPH on the way up and the wind noise was LOUD. The hood was shaking at times and it was scary to see it move around like that. On the trip home I was at 200 RPM lower to go the same speed as the trip up.

Now I think I am gonna go drink some of the boss's beer and eat his dinner tonight.

good for you!!!!

Now the boss's wife is making me mow the fescue grass. The Bermuda does not like the cooler weather and it is still green, but it has not grown but a couple of MM in two weeks. The cool grass fescue is loving the weather and growing like mad. With luck, but the end of next year the Bermuda will take over the dang fescue in the front since the big tree was removed after the ice storm last year. Same for the back yard in the west part of the yard.

The Fescue and rye grass is pretty and green and will grow all winter long, dang it.

We put the leaf cover on the koi pond yesterday. The recent windy days had blown green leaves into the pond from bushes all over the yard. It will be interesting to see how many leaves we collect this year with several trees that we lost from the ice storm.

Chores this week are to bring the hoses in and coil them up out f the way and put the lawn tractor in the shed and get the snow blower out. Then I somehow have to tetris some motorcycles and cars into the garage.

Our next project is to shut down the fountain in the front garden. I have to lift the solid concrete statue off the base, and set in on the driveway on the other side of the other garden. That gets cleaned of the moss and goo of a water fountain running all summer. Te basin gets drained and cleaned out and cleaned with colorx. Then it is all wrapped in plastic and kept dry all winter.

flipper35 11-01-2021 10:34 AM

I need to do all that with our pool this week as well.

Porsche-poor 11-02-2021 06:38 AM

morning all. No pond art to winterize here. I will have leaves to rake for the next few weeks, wish they would all drop off at once.

GH85Carrera 11-02-2021 06:59 AM

With most of our trees just a year old, we don't have much to rake now.

I have aerial photos of our neighborhood from the 50s, 60s, 70, 80 and 90s back when the entire area was a farmer's wheat field. No trees at all, and for a while the area was the soccer field for a local university.

When the neighborhoods went in in the 80s and later the trees were planted. Out house was built in 1995. The builder planted the cheap Bradford Pear trees. They grow fast but are vulnerable to wind and ice storms. We had five of them when we moved in. They all grew large, and were destroyed by ice storms.

Now we have six hybrid trees that flower and approved by the master gardener wife.

flipper35 11-02-2021 10:40 AM

We took down all the dying pine trees and put up a Bing, Rainier, Montmorency cherry trees. Asian plum, State Fair and Fuji apple trees and a pear tree I can never remember the name of. Some Asian variety again.

We had a Bing cherry in the front yard but it didn't make it through the first winter.

This was the first year we have had plums since planting them several years ago. We couldn't eat them fast enough and gave about half away.

Fall has arrived. We are at 43 degrees and drizzling. We received almost 3/4 inch of slow steady rain.

The 70s come back for the weekend! :)

flipper35 11-03-2021 10:17 AM

The only way we get the 70s back is if we wear bell bottoms and barrymore collars.

Or something like this?

flipper35 11-03-2021 11:56 AM

Yup.

Porsche-poor 11-04-2021 06:45 AM

Morning all. The GK is sick and decided to share. I spent yesterday mostly napping with him on the couch. Not a great way to burn a vacation day.

GH85Carrera 11-04-2021 07:02 AM

At least he has learned to share!

Get well soon.

GH85Carrera 11-04-2021 09:49 AM

I was checking in my junk folder to see how many messages were in there. After a week it is usually up to 20. Some of the same ol crap. Several are from legit companies that I bought a product from, and I have even tried their unsubscribe to email or newsletters links on their web pages. I still get the crap, and the are just taken off my list of companies I will do business with ever again.

I had three random emails that wanted to sell me a list of 40 million email addresses I can send spam to. Dang, then I could block myself!

Back in the early days of the internet we were on a DSL line at work and had our own domain for email and hosted our own web page. The email administrator was not on top of security, and our web page and email were hacked and one day became a gambling site. I literally pulled the plug and said "Hack that fcker" and we had to rebuild from old backups. It was months of effort to get our email domain off of the blocked lists.
