A 962 owner let a youngster sit in his 962 in the pits. Next session out on his video camera half lap in he was turning his boost knob. When asked if he was adjusting the boost for qualifying he said no. The kid that sat in the car had spun the boost knob and it was over boosting on the warm up lap. Ya gotta watch them when you let them in the car. Another racer had a kid in his car and the kid pulled the on board fire system handle. $400 and few hours of clean up required. My buddy is a shop teacher in Carmel and a few of his HS students spent the weekend at the races. I let a few of them sit in my car and rev the engine. Like this Sailor we met at Coronado years ago. After a session when the car was still heat soaked I let this kid in my car and he was grinning like crazy. I asked him what he was thinking? He said I'm waiting for the green light. ![]() This model just wanted to use my side mirror. ![]() This little guy liked the width of my RSR rear rims.

At car shows I let kids sit in my 911 if their shoes are clean, and the kid's clothes are clean.
Lots of big grins. I finished mowing, and was enjoying one of the boss's cold beers and a buddy in the PCA region with a SC said he was seeing some unusual smoke from the bottom of the engine. I offerd to put it up on my life and he said I will be there in 40 minutes. So we got it on the lift, and it was the first time he had ever been really under the car. He has owned it nearly 20 years and it has 220,000 miles on the car. The engine has never been rebuilt. It has lots of oil leaks. Nothing severe and he should be good to go to the Birmingham Parade in two weeks. I suggested he look into a engine reseal which means drop the engine and transmission and replace all the leaky seals. I suspect the triangle of death is the biggest source, but after all those years and miles, it is time for some new seals. And maybe a new clutch kit "while they are in there". I think it might be time for a shower.

Coronado festival of speed was always fun. Daughter has gone a few times with me.

Last Coronado race was in 2016, ours was the last race of the day and forever for that matter. I qualified 2 seconds a lap quicker than 2nd place. So I talked to the 2nd place qualifier and we agreed to make it more interesting we would point each other past a few times to make the race more exciting for the spectators. Afterwards the race director complimented me on the race and he was surprised and pleased when I told him all the passes were precoordinated. The spectators liked the show. ![]() |

I am anxious to get to Barber Motorsports in two weeks. Driving the new Porsche models for two days of fun and learning, and then on Saturday, I get to run my car on the track for the DE. I will for sure need too reset my braking points for my car compared to the modern Porsches with all the bells and whistles.

Like most days for me!
Of course I had some projects to do. Wee cleaned the Koi pond filters so that is done. When I had my track inspection done he mentioned the front left wheel bearing felt just a tad loose. So I put it up on the lift, and double checked and it has more play that the passenger side. So fight with the wheel bearing cover and get that off. Loosen the wheel bearing clamp, and rotate just the little to tighten the wheel bearing. Mount the wheel, double check the play, remove the wheel and hammer on the cover, then put the wheel back on, and lower the car and torque the lugs. ![]() My security system alerted me to an animal at the front door and then the driveway. Normally it is just a cat. It sure looks like a turkey to me. My wife thinks it is a peacock.

We used to have a road runner in the neighborhood. It was neat seeing it chase down lizards. It could easily hop over our stockade fence. I hope we never get any coyotes!

We have them in the area, we can hear their loud squawk from far away. Same squawk you hear when walking around the San Diego Zoo. I've heard others complain the Peacocks likes to eat all the flowers in your garden. Had a few road runners here too. They get on the roof and call out for mates. Interesting hoot, never expected to see it was a road runner making that noise. C/P Peacocks are male and females are called peahens. The major difference is that only peacocks(males) have long colourful tails which they use for attracting the females by dancing and displaying it whereas female are dull coloured as compared to males and don't have long tails and are brown in colour. Have fun with the modern cars, my interest in Porsche ended with the air cooled cars. |

There is no doubt the new cars are tons faster and better track cars than my 85 Carrera. Still it wiill be fun to drive a 911 Turbo S, Cayman GTS and 911 GTS. No GT3 cars on the list, but all cars, no SUVs.
Several of my friends that I told about my track day fun said I would sell the 911 and get a new car. Ain't no way. I prefer my old air cooled car that is 100% my car after 29 years. I have made it just the way I think it needs to be. It is the perfect cross country car. I can drive it for 12 hours and still feel great.

Then you have a modern car that you can't work on. Need special training and tools. I guess if it's new and under warranty you would not pay any labor for a few years. Instead of labor you pay the depreciation on the new Porsche. Besides with all the nannies today don't the new cars all handle about the same? All the modern nannies kind of homogenize the handling on all modern sports cars. |

Porsche is one of the few manufacturers that run a box stock version of a car that will publish the actual times at the Nürburgring. And most of the top fastest times are Porsches. It seems Ferrari is afraid to post their times.
But I totally agree a new 911 is stupid expensive and drops in value. My old 85 has gone UP in value 5 times over what I paid for it. I have driven it to 41 states and Canada, likely approaching 300 autocrosses and several track days. ![]() I do 90% of the work on it myself. I did have factory trained technician rebuild my transmission, and put in a new 5th gear that dropped my cruise RPM by 800 RPM. I will never forget that gut punch when I walked into my garage and saw it on jack-stands, with no suspension. And I said out loud, Glen what the F*** did you do! I got it all put back on and corner balanced and aligned and next to the massive AC upgrade was one of the best thing I have done to it. My wife will ride thousands of miles and no complaints.

Watching the weather forecast last night and they said Oklahoma has had 99 tornadoes so far this year. 57 is normal for the year. That counts every tornado, even one that touches down for a second and goes away. We are due for a week of rain now.

I downloaded the two videos of the bird to my computer and looked at them carefully. My wife now agrees it was a turkey.
In the driveway it walks along the garage doors, then comes too the fence to the backyard and it makes a turkey like noise as it jumps up to the top of the fence and then over. My old boss had a Peacock dumped in his neighborhood. Lots of noise and crap all over the roof and the front porch. His grand kids and great grand kids all thought it was wonderful. One day when everyone else was gone, and the peacock was in a tree in their yard he went out with a shotgun and killed it. he just took the body to the woods behind his house and hid it under leaves. He never mentioned it for many years, and never to his wife and kids. It just left for some unknown reason!

I have one security system, or burglar alarm that is monitored when I active it when we are both gone for a while. It has two cameras, one at the front door, and one in the driveway, showing both garage doors and most of the parking area. It is what triggered to let us know of the large bird.
I also have a 4 camera system of my own that is not on the internet, and just records to a DVR. looked at footage from it and found the turkey, clearly a turkey, hop the fence and wander in the back yard over to the Koi pond, and it got a couple of drinks of water, and pecked around and scratched in the garden around the Koi pond. It then went to the west side of the yard and pecked, and finally behind the pond and vanished over the fence. It was in our yard for over 10 minutes.
