Absolutely. At one event I attended it was breezy and in the 50s. One chick is the daughter of a friend, so I know her well enough to chat with her. She was freezing, and her jeans looked like she had gone one on one with Edward Scissorhands. Just full of rips and I know she paid a lot for them. I pointed out that jeans with no manufactured rips and tears are warmer. She preferred to be cold but in fashion.

I was always adept at wearing out my jeans and I sure never bought new jeans that had holes in them.

I have seen that to. The worst is the girl who buys a perfectly good pair of jeans for big bucks then ruins them herself.

When I was forced to take the boss's wife to the Apple store at the mall we walked through a Penny's or a Dillard's in the clothing area (is there a difference?). I walked past jeans that were brand new, but covered in paint. WTF?

I presume it was to make other people think you had actually painted something and done real work, but were a real slob. They were next to jeans that look like a wolverine used them as a nest. And they were insane expensive.

I wonder how much vintage jeans would bring on EBay?

Depends on the vintage. Jeans from the 50s and 60s are highly sought after. I remember the good ol days when Levis were made in the USA. I could just go to the store, and buy the size I wore, and never have to try them on. Now they can be marked one size and yet be very different fit between three pairs of jeans with the same size label on them.

I hated the era of bell bottom jeans. I never cared for that stupid look, and it was almost impossible to find a store that carried regular old jeans with straight legs.

Back in my single days I put on my "work on cars and mow the yard" jeans that were pretty well worn out from actual wear and tear and working in them. My wife would have made them mysteriously vanish. Sine I had no wife then, I had them on and was about to start mowing and my stomach decided I needed to eat. I looked in the fridge, and since I was single no one had been to the grocery store in a while and stocked it up. So I ran up to the Arby's a few blocks away. I have hated eating in cars, and the 914 was way too cramped to eat in, so I went into the seating area. I was munching on my meal and some guy with a thick foreign accent asked where I bought the jeans. I explained they were very old, and I had no idea where I bought them, but the local mall sells jeans. Back then they were not all pre-worn out like now.

I did not mind the knees getting totally blown out but when the crotch started to have holes I trashed them.

Last week they were predicting severe weather for the area for last night. The prediction was right. Norman, OK got hammered with a hail and wind storm. First quarter size hail then golf ball size, then baseball size hail. Thousands of cars beat to heck. West side windows and many north side windows broken out in businesses and homes. Roofs are totaled.

We got just a 1/2 inch of rain so totally lucky. I am glad I did not need a new windshield because every shop and window place will be swamped. The paintless dent repair guys can go buy that new boat or new house but they will be working all they want for months.

They are not unknown. My MILs house has several. The thick plexiglass is harder to break than glass as it bends and gives some. No doubt a softball size hunk of very hard ice smashing into the ground at terminal velocity of 110 MPH can smash through a roof.

To keep a baseball size hunk of ice suspended in the air at up to 30,000 feet takes 200 to 300 MPH updrafts.

Hey, we just had a nice 1/2 inch rain overnight. It was Norman, OK that was hammered. The National Weather service in Norman, OK got to see the hail close up and personal.

Fort Worth, TX got it as well.

One of the clerks that works at my local beer supplier store has a car he bought at a huge discount. The glass was replaced, but the entire car was just pummeled with hail. It looks like a golf ball with all the divots on it. He can't care less, it was many grand cheaper to get a new car with some "patina" built in.

Mythbusters tested that!

In fact it does help with gas mileage. Mythbusters added a layer of clay to the body of a car, and then dd careful measurement of fuel usage. Then they spent the time to carefull cut out a divot, and put all that mass of clay in the car so the weight would be the same. They did find an decent improvement. From 26 MPG to 29 MPG.

We had some old friends over last night for dinner. My parents were their best friends, and we have remained friends even after my parents died. She is 88 and he just turned 90. She is having enough health problems and the beginning of dementia. He has been insulin dependent diabetic for the 30 years I have know them.

They are moving over the weekend to a Dallas retirement home just 4 miles from their daughter. The good news is their daughter married very very well. As the family she married into is one of the mega many billions of dollars families. The daughter opened her petty cash account and bought them a place at one of the brand new high end retirement facilities. All meals provided, and house cleaning and nurses to help with issues. It sounds like a really nice place. And the daughter hired an interior decorator to come furnish the place and make it look more like home. The daughter bought the very nice house they had lived in so she will take care of selling it.

They are a super nice couple, and really helped my parents with their end of life issues and they helped me a lot. I told them if there was anything they needed to call me. Fortunately they were never poor to start with, and their daughter has more money than she can spend. They deserve the best, as they are the best of friends and honestly very helpful people.
