We have had some great weather the last week. Only rained in the night and a nice breeze in the upper 70s in the daytime.

The header gaskets arrived for the Cobra. I hate having to change them every 5-6 years, but it isn't really a tough job.

We haven't had a DVD player in many years, but we have a Home Theater PC with BR drive in it. We have all our stuff ripped to the HTPC and use Plex to stream it wherever we are, including any music with playlists. Between Pandora and Plex I have not felt the need for SXM but they keep trying to get us to subscribe for $15 per month. I do like the traffic and weather on the build in Nav so we will probably keep subscribing to that. It even gives weather alerts along the route.

Well, the final door panel inserts are in, and the project is pretty much done.

Now on to a simpler and very digital project.

My 911 has the hole where the Cassette storage was. I have as much need for a cassette storage as I do a DVD player for watching movies.

My plan is to make a 3D printed box, with a hole just the size of a water bottle. I use that square hole now to store my water bottle, and it is OK, but the water bottle flops around in there. I figure a tight fit with foam insulation will keep the water cold longer.

It should be interesting. My business partner uses Solid Works, and he has a 3D printer. I need a media that does not melt in the summer heat of a car in the sun.

Boy had his first real football game last night. He was starting at defensive tackle and offensive left guard. He did good at the guard position as he opened up some holes for the backs to run through. On defense he got double teamed a lot and the nose guard they had was not doing well so they moved the boy there. Any time he was not double or triple teamed he was in the backfield. The other team ran a lot of outside routes so he did a lot of chasing from behind. He played all but 2 minutes when he was taken out to erst after getting choked by the center. He must have gotten to the center as there were a couple bad snaps resulting in fumbles. We also found out last night he is their punter. he always had a hard time at the house practicing punts, but they got him to get the technique down and he does OK now.

OK, kid brag over.

Start the new job on the 12. Should be interesting.

Well said.

I was allowed to haul Mrs. Carrera to Enid yesterday. 95 miles each way. In the morning when we drove past the eleventy zillion wind turbines not one was moving. OK, there was one that moved about 1/16 of a revolution in the several minutes it was in view. The rest had no movement. In the afternoon, they rotated slowly.

That 190 miles put me overdue for an oil change, so I did that this morning. Golly what fun. There are 10 grease zerks that need to be lubed. My grease gun mostly sits, and the oils come out of the grease and it dripped goo for several minutes and made a proper mess. I need to make up a diaper for it. Since I don't commute anymore it takes a while to need an oil change. Of course the 911 has nothing to grease, so it is just the Elky that needs the lube job.

Today was mow the yard day. It was NICE! this morning, and 65 degrees. Unfortunately that must have been the dew point, and the yard was super wet. So I had to wait until 9:30 to mow and let things dry out. Still some damp areas in the shade. It was nice to sit on the tailgate of the EL Camino, the large fan blowing on me, and enjoy a cold beer and admire my great job of mowing and edging.

Next Saturday is the big car show in Guthrie. Always a good time. I will need to clean up the 911 a bit, and I am ready.

I got my water bottle holder finished up. Painted and insulated. It will be interesting to see just how well it works to keep the bottle cool. The autocross is on Sunday, and it will get a two day workout.

If you care at all, here is a post I made in the tech site about the water bottle project.

Need to mow here but have been working on a cradle for the canoe and kayaks for the trailer. New job starts Monday. The wife is sad I won't be doing breakfast with her and then doing so many house projects. Oh well.

Arggh. We flew a refinery and that is a pain in the butt to make look right. We don't (no one does) a giant camera that we can take one super mega pixel image and be done. We do have a 80 mega pixel camera, and we fly a pattern over an area like mowing the lawn, back and forth, with lots of forward overlap and side to side overlap on each photo. We might have 400 images on a site or many thousands of images on large sites. Obviously the computer stitches the images together and makes a final. That is great for a flat field, but something with 11 zillion pipes and towers and steam exhaust it is a real challenge.

Ah well, that is why they hired us, and I get to fight with it. I guess that is why it is called work.

I suspect my attention to detail is usually never noticed. I am very "zoomed in" on the image and looking at little tiny areas and fixing blunders in the computer data that will never be seen in a print of any scale that is reasonable. If they tried to print a 1"-25' print it would be bigger than the warehouse wall, and the viewer would need a large ladder to see the tops parts.

When I look at what we did with the old $490,000 very top of the bleeding edge best film camera possible, this image is spectacular. The old film days are truly obsolete, except for long term archival purposes.

Morning all. Had a very nice weekend at the beach with the grand kid. He should be finding sand for months.

As kids living in Hawaii, dad would rent a beach house on Bellows AFS. It was priced by rank, and dad was a Captain so it was like $5 per day. Fantastic view, pristine beach and the cabin was just feet from the sandy beach. We would stay for a week.

After 6 or 7 days absolutely everything had sand in it. Even trying to eat a sandwich, had sand in it. We all called then SANDwiches. The bed had sand, and it got real old. We were always happy to get home and away from the sand and the constant pounding of the waves.

I guess I got my fill of beach life as I have zero desire to go to any beach. When we were in Key West the beach was really stinking, dead fish or ocean smell. It was not inviting enough to even take off my shoes and wade in.

No doubt the grandkid enjoyed it. I hope you had fun as well.

Sounds like fun except for the sand.

There is no doubt that that the same cabins on that beach would rent for thousands a week right now. They are still military only, and I hope that does not change. The beach is free of cigarette butts, trash, only a few dozen people at peak times. It is a real perk for the low pay and dangerous jobs in military life.

No Doubt. We had fun. Tired to to find a few geo's but the phone service was bad and I need a new GPS. The old one would start then die. I put new batteries in it but no joy.

Mrs. Carrera is "deep cleaning" the house. So I get to help, pull appliances like washer and dryer away from the spot they sit, and clean under them. Take down the globes on ceiling light fixtures, and clean. Pull out the furniture, and clean. And so on and so on.

I am trying to clean up the 911 for the big car show on Saturday. You know, something really important! It is 71 degrees, but 80% humidity. On Sunday after the car show, but before the autocross the cold front comes through, and drops our afternoon highs to 78 or 80, and morning to 50s and 60s. I like it. Hopefully that will last for a while, and not go to freezing and snowing like last fall and winter. We had a super short fall, and short spring. Winter hung on way to long.

We get to clean up today. They are coming with a laser scanner tomorrow for measuring the new countertops we got for my wife's birthday last month.

A few last days of retirement practice as Jeff would say.
