Morning. I think we have the twin to that bookcase. Big oak heavy thing.

That bookcase is just made of plywood, with a veneer of some wood and coated. She sanded off the finish to get the primer to stick. Now she is painting the final color, on day three. It will likely take a few more days, as the paint has to dry for 4 hours before a second coat. And two weeks before it can have books back in place.
I think the wood would have been fine, but I am not involved in the decision making for furniture and paint colors. I just say yes dear. She has good taste, and it will look nice when all done. The entire living room furniture is getting replaced, and even a new entertainment system. That is going to be a few days of taking the old one apart, emptying it out, the putting the new one in place and all the components. I really dread that.

Our is not super heavy. It is not heirloom level, but it hold the books just fine, and looked OK. Now it will be a very close color to the new furniture that is being made.

Yea, but, but but, my poor El Camino has had to be outside for three days!
Of course it used to be in the parking lot at work for 26 years and driven in every kind of weather. Now it stays in the garage when I am not driving it, or at the parking lot of wherever we went.

Day three of the painting project, and the Elky is back in our parking area. She is getting closer. Likely one more day. The AC in the garage is about a buck per hour to run. For working on my car, I often saw it as the cost of a good six pack of beer. To spend the day out there in comfort and come in not feeling beat, hot and sweaty is worth it.
When I told her I was going to install AC in the door of the garage, she just rolled her eyes. When I told he I was installing a pit for a scissor lift she never questioned price or the need, but she was skeptical. ![]() ![]() It sure is nice to have. And I suspect she understands now.

Morning all. Looks great. Our garage faces West and it a smart idea to get all the outdoor chores done before the son rolls over the top the of the house cause the garage bakes all afternoon.

Our garage doors face west. They were insulated by the builder, and the garage has finished walls and all are insulated. That made it possible to heat and air condition. In the afternoon, with the sun shining on the garage doors, they don't feel warm at all.
The door with the AC faces east to the back porch. I had to modify it after I first put it up as I hated going through the house to get to the storage shed. So I can open that framed area and step out into the back porch and get to the storage shed or the trash cans in the back yard and not have to open the garage doors. There is a very sturdy shelf I built that makes it possible to remove the air conditioner, and place it on the shelf. Then a few deck screws, and the entire frame can come out and be stored in the garage against a wall out of the way if I want to.

Great idea. I'd do something like that here but we don't plan to stay here long enough to make it worth while.

When we bought this house we booth agreed, this is our forever house. I will leave on a gurney or wheel chair, off to the nursing home or funeral parlor.
If I ever just disappear, please have the police check if she had a new flower bed added.

Yea, the day I can't drive or get out of the 911 is the day I sell it. Same for the El Camino. I hope that is a long way off.

Or she digs the flowerbed, and then sells it!
I ain't too worried. She needs me for to many things. Killing spiders and oil changes on her car, just to name a couple.

Years ago I can remember my father-in-law when buying a new car saying he was looking for one that had a big enough front door to ease entry and exit. I also remember thinking “what a stupid priority for buying a car”. Now I’m starting to see his point.

Yea, my El Camino has an enormous door, and it opens enough that I can just sit down. And it is easy to get out of.
The 911 can be a struggle, especially when parked on a slope. It is easy to get down into! One of the reasons my wife went for the Macan was ease of getting in and out of it. And of course, heated or air conditioned seats, and all the other modern bells and whistles.
