Problem is I do mind the new job, a lot. Ordering protapotties is beneath me.

I do not want to give them the impression that I will take the job and then having to turn it down in January, when I am supposed to start doing it full time.

Decent thing to do is let them know that I will not be taking up the new position but that I am willing to continue doing it for a certain period so that they have the oportunity to find a suitable candidate.

Whatever is going to happen when I drop the news that I will not take the job is anybody's guess, that's why I am already looking in the classifieds and sending out letters.

I wish I already had a another option but I don't right now. I'm not in dispair though.
And if they sack me now, it'll be at least three months, likely more before I am jobless.
(funny detail, my car is not in my contract. It comes with the function I have now. It was offered as an extra benefit when I started four years ago and I will not hand in the keys just like that when they sack me. unless I am legally obliged too, but I have to check that first)

At the end of the day you have to be happy with the guy who watches you brush your teeth. Don't hold back G just tell them what you just told us (sans car keys) and let them deal with it.

well don't drop the news yourself.. play dumb, let them come to you.
If you wait past 1 december , you gain another month, you know how it works.

The car, that is "verworven recht". doesn't have to be in the contract.
+ if they sack you, you make more then x amount, no rules, has to be mutual agreement.
you tell them you will need the car in the severance, as part of the package.. doesn't cost em much anyway it's not taxed.

Waiting until december does make good sense, good idea!
I'm not going to play dumb until the very end though. That way they will know I'm deliberately being difficult and that might compromise further negotiations.

they can't blame you for being uninterested..
they can't blame you for not chasing them on their bad proposal (and they know it)..
They have to chase you , not the other way around.

I don't know why they haven't come to me already for an answer. Surely they must know that I am not going to take the job, I'm not exactely overenthusiastic...
Last week someone asked me how my new job was going. I said it went so so, and that I hadn't made up my mind yet.... And that it was not final yet either....
How clear can I be other than openly shouting that I am not gong to take it?
Surely someone must have read between the lines by now....

I am not chasing their proposal myself but I do think that they expect me to give them the heads up as soon as I know my final answer.
(mind you, they do not think their proposal is bad....)

let them think what they want and play dumb. trust me on this one.
It doesn't matter what they think, they want something, they have to chase it. not the other way around. You don't have to do anything to speed up the process.

I agree with Stijn. For now, you probably shouldn't say anything negative about the job, nor indicate which way you're leaning. Just keep your thoughts to yourself at work, and continue looking for a job that does appeal to you. If asked directly about the position, answer honestly about what aspects of it are good and what doesn't interest you. Best wishes on all of this G.

Pete, right now I both of my ear lobes DON'T HURT. Pretty much everything else does.

It was tough to roll out of bed this morning. My leg muscles are real sore. I probably got on my knees a million times and got down to lay on my back another million. My mother told me a million times to never exaggerate.

Tonight the real dirty part starts. Parts washing. The intake is caked with 300K worth of grime. The distributor was obviously leaking. There is a thick layer of baked on oil in the back of the engine.

Rick, what is your favorite home parts cleaning method when you don't have a big commercial parts washer handy?
