I'm with you on the Ubuntu thing Rick. For the average user it is pretty idiot proof. My dad loves it on the computer he uses. He was having virus issues with Windoze, so I loaded up Ubuntu, and haven't looked back.

Slackware might be better if you are more versed in computers like dave is....

Why yes I did, I think twice as a matter of fact. Ubuntu is plug and play, From what Dave has told me Slackware needs to be tailored, but he can answer that better than me. I do know I had some issues getting the Wifi to turn on on an HPos, but that is an issue with those breeds.

Slackware was the first version of Linux to be bundled together (packages). Before, you had to go all over the limited Internet of that time to get the packages. I'm not sure anymore, but at one time it was the most heavily developed version out there, but no one bothered to make a nice easy, GUI install and update interface, like Redhat and others (Ubuntu). These days, it does have a simple GUI type interface, but you still need to go to the command line after the basic install and go to town.

With Slackware, you have to get into the scripts and do a lot of command line editing. There is a web based program, called Webmin that can be installed - I do, but after the system is setup. Webmin makes it easier to reconfigure most everything you would run from wifi to webserver to Squid proxy server.

How'd your final go?

I got a 3.5 GPA this quarter. 3 A's and a C+. That was all because I was really sick one test day and ended up spending too much time on the first part of the test. The class average for that test was a 62, though. No curves.

You know it's finals week when you see people passed out in front of a computer in the library.

I feel like I am on course for straight As this semester.
