Well, his loss. I did both Angeles Crest and Mul Hwy today, and Mul was much more populated (=less sporting fun).

The 930 runs fine. It just smokes a bit from leaking oil. I can either drive around fogging mosquitos, or fix the leaks. If I fix the leaks, do I fix them all (essentially a rebuild) or just fix the worst ones and put off the rebuild for later? I'm going to have TRE pull the motor. Doesn't look like it's leaking from a broken headstud, though (that was my biggest fear); rather the leak looks like it's coming from above when viewed from up on a lift.

Noah.
Get a leak down/comp test done.

Then if it needs a rebuild, pull it down to see whats what.
If it needs it and you have the cash, go for it.
If you have some extra cash, do the mods.

If its good you can fix the leaks and do the external mods.

But if I don't do a compression/leakdown test, then I won't have to worry about that rebuild...yet.

Mrs. Noah is not happy about a $10K rebuild (not including added go-fast parts, which my mind has tallied up to be another $8K).

How do you get 8K for the mods?

If the car has never had a rebuild it must be getting to that point.
How many miles has it done.

And 10k for the rebuild.
Thats a good price.
What does that inclued?

The car has about 94K miles. I've put on about 27K of those. I don't think it's ever been rebuilt, but in the scanty maintenance files I got from the previous owner, I see that a "re-seal" has been done once or twice in the past, and that there's been a bill for "engine tin." So the motor's been out, before.

The $10K is my overall guesstimate, based upon what other seem to (claim to) spend. That's keeping with the same 3.3 liter parts. Talking with a Porsche mechanic buddy indicates I'm not too far off. That'll fix all the leaks, though.

The go-fast parts wish list includes headers ($2K), muffler ($1K), intercooler ($2K), turbo ($2K), cams, 1.0 bar spring. Overall, I'm guessing that'll be around $7-8K.

Damn........

Extra enforcement is off to a good start in 2012. Drivers apparently took the warning not to get behind the wheel after boozing it up during Saturday night's new year's celebrations.

Even with more officers on duty and increased patrols there were no Driving Under the Influence arrests in the city of Charlottesville or Albemarle County overnight. Police say it's a great way to transition into what they hope will be a safe new year.

I dont know about doing the headers, Noah.
2K for the gain?
Spend that on some TBs and shocks. You will gain more time with these.
The cams, only if you do a rebuild.
Muffler IC Turbo TBs Shocks and tyres, YES.

930 will never be a great AX car.
Its just the whole combo.
These changes will make it good for AX.
However, for your canyon runs and the odd track day it will be awesome.

WOW, no Aussies in the area I see.
We have the harshest penalties in the world for DD.
Yet people continue to do it.

I'll keep the shocks advice in mind.

Yes, cams only if the rest of the motor is coming apart.

I was thinking headers for drivability, more than absolute HP gains. Turbo lag semi-sucks. Well, the lag sucks, but the whoosh at the end is quite the rush.

Max: Yes, it was I in the 993tt.

I enjoy reading your stuff in the Track/AX forum.
I like the way you talk about how Anti roll bars work.
Thanks.

I actually like my bicycle a lot. It is a good workout uphill and downhill is more exciting than the 911 (on the roads I ride and drive on).

I see a motorcycle in my future.
