i've been putting feeders out for years. at first, we'd only get a very few. now, we have quite a few of them. things get really busy during their migration periods.

They (Anna's Hummingbirds) stay here year round. I think that is the only species around here but I think there may be Rufous Hummingbirds in areas too.

I sure find it hard to take a good picture of them. Probably due to the laggy response of my point and shoot camera. Need a DSLR.

the shutter lag on my camera (digital) makes it nearly impossible to get a good picture of them. i try a few times every spring and give up after several failed attempts. i may have to get the old school 35mm out.

I had to pull up a chair and stage a stakeout to get those pics. They will come very close to you, buzzing your head (sometimes rather alarmingly) if you do not move much. They just want the nectar and don't care about a person being around.

Much better. I will find a lens I like first, then get a used chassis to fit it I think. I like the big zoom range of this camera, though.

I just spent 5 minutes playing with hummers. Two fly into me as they were fighting for the feeder. Tried to get a quick pick, but too dark.

I assume that was a response to the girlfriend posts. The thread has moved on since, though.
![]() I am not just looking for a quick one. I want someone who is more of a companion than that. Someone I enjoy talking to and doing stuff with, not just a nice body. I think it is a deep down part of me that is driving that. I keep feeling like I am an outsider. I do have a few good engineering friends but I still know that I have some different fundamental values from them which keeps me from really showing my true colors. I need someone I can be myself with. So it is hard to meet that person when I feel the need to hide it. Sorry for the heavy interlude. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Yeah, those pointy beaks and their quick maneuvers can make you nervous.
