I think almost anytime is a good time to go. I think you will find the young women that are up early and out, are the ones that don't drink or don't drink much and maybe the ones you would prefer to go after. That's not to say you will find the same ones hiking later in the day as well, but you are right, a good portion of younger SLO town wakes up later in the morning, just in time for lunch. Those are the ones who closed the bars and may not be your type.

This isn't a competition, just a friendly challenge. We are either both winners, both losers or a combination at the end. This is really to better yourself (and myself), stop making lame excuses for not getting our goals accomplished.
