yep! great movie.

I do miss flying small planes. I'm on the fence about buying a small one. we have a flying club at work...but the guys in it are airplane nerds. they all want me to join. pass. id rather have my own rig....not worry about crossing seatbelts when im done flying, etc.

everytime i start looking at them, i think about hangaring, insurance, annuals, etc....and then i think about how much less of a hassle it is to have cool cars. ha!

Nick Falzone: [to Russell Bell] I'm personally going to see to it that you go down in flames!
Airplane Pilot: What?
Nick Falzone: Negative, United. That was not to you. Not to you!

But, but... You have a place to work on the cool cars! Okay, a little different in my situation, since I'm not the one who owns "our" plane or the hanger in which it resides.

It was pouring with rain at around 7:30 and then lightning and thunder for a little while. The thunder and lightning started again. Somewhat far away but the lightning lights up the dark night sky. And the thunder sounds really loud since there is no rain at the moment and being in amongst the hills to reverberate it.

It is pretty cool. Been a long time since I have experienced lightning and thunder.

one of my buddies who is now at long beach tower lives at Brackett....in his hangar. he's converted it into his garage for his cars, airplane, and living quarters. kind of tempting. i could live in a hangar at Willy J Fox in Lancaster. HA!

Max, I hope that comes here. It's been on and off cloudy, but no real moisture on the ground. I poked my head out about a half hour ago and I could see a lot of sky.

Wow, that is surprising. I would have thought you would have a great view of it in the high desert and with the mountains nearby. How long have you been here?

Wow, that is too bad. I couldn't live in the desert.

Big lightning flash just now. Lit up the sky. It was far away though.

A number of years ago, my dad and I went for a Sunday "$200" burger, headed out West along the coast somewhere. On the way out, we see a wisp of some rising up from one of the canyons. Weather was not conducive for lightening, so we thought maybe it was a fire that got away from a campfire. We also though it may have been.... When my dad owned my 911 he had brought it to a mechanic down in L.A. that was close to his office at the time. He Hungarian, ex fighter pilot. He had a Bonanza as well and would often fly with a group of guys on Sundays. They liked to fly low and into the canyons. For some reason, instead of doing the normal routine of overflying the canyon(s), to make sure you could get out and it did not quickly "box" you in, they did not and headed on their way, about 45 minutes before we took off - unbeknownst to us. Our suspicions were confirmed a day or two later. He and another plane rounded a corner in a canyon and slammed into the side of a mountain. Two other planes had hung back for some reason and were able to pull up and out.

January 2011! Oh. That's not long.

I think the last thunderstorm I saw was two years ago. The December of 2010 was very, very wet, too.

sucks. we just had a guy go down out in the mojave a couple of weeks ago. last summer, we lost a guy in the grand canyon area...it was eerie looking at the giant tv monitor in my area, and seeing the guys callsign listed on an Alert Notice...for weeks. Took months to find his wreckage.
