French Fries, what's this "French", thought they were called Fries or Chips. The only Adjective I've heard to go with Fries is, Small, Regular or Medium, Large, and Extra-Large or Jumbo, oh and Super-Size.

Quote:
In my experience the style of food in a restaurant has little to do with the real food from another country. One of my many neighbors over the years was an Italian chef from Italy. He said the food eaten by locals in Italy is nothing like the food cooked in Itailian restaurants in the states. If you asked almost any American in the states to name a Belgian food they would say Brussels sprouts or Belgian chocolate. ![]() When I have talked to people from other countries and asked them what is American food to them it is a big steak or a hamburger.

Well sprouts did get popular after having first been cultivated around Brussels and chocolate IS quite big around here too..We won't take crappy brown stuff and as such average quality of chocolate is very high around here.
As are Asparagus (a la flamande : Flemish style), Beef stew, wafels and off course, Fries. Food is important around here, we are much closer to France then we are to Holland, or Germany as far as good goes..

Yea, Belgian Waffles would be on the list!
I guess Gremany has not come for a vist in Belgium for 60 years so it is good to keep them away.

We had an interesting client come by for a price quote. The ultimate client is a large refinery that our company has mapped since 1969. Once upon a time we talked right to the end user. As they grew and were bought by successive larger companies the layers of bureaucracy has become silly. We use the same airplane we have had since 1969. Now we have to fill out a lot of paperwork just for the honor of doing business with them. They keep asking for a copy of our automotive insurance and we keep telling them we don't have a car and we never set foot on their property.
Now many of the big national mapping companies chase after their business and send slick salesmen and saleswomen wearing expensive suits and show fancy presentations on their company. The engineer that works over the project drove over today. He arrived on his BMW motorcycle. One of the guys here is working on replacing the front shock on his BMW motorcycle and it is in the back of the building. We call this place monster garage so it is not unusual to see a project like that. We are all wearing shorts and t-shirts and in a rather laid back mode. He pulls out last year's prints and we open our files that we did for them last year. He shows us the changes and they are easy for us. The customers said one thing he loves about us is there is never an argument about what they can have as a product. They ask we say yes and it will be ready is short order. The big companies have massive order procedures and the customer would have to fill out project reports and if there is a slight change the price can spiral up. We just say here ya go. We got this one in the bag.

French Fries or "Fenching" cooking sliced potato in in hot fat was discovered at about the same time in both Belgium and France. The French made the potato popular when King and Queen of France wore potato flowers and publicly ate some potatoes cooked many different ways and liked em, well before Fries. Until then only the Scots would eat potatoes because people thought they would make you sick. They planted potatoes in the royal garden and because something guarded must be valuable the plants were stolen and propagated all over France and Belgium.

Place close to me sells Snickers bars that are battered, deep fried, then coated with powdered sugar and chocolate syrup. Beats any donut I ever ate.

Mine is over 20 years old and only on the second set of elements. A little spendy on the front end but great for the long haul

Evening All.
Won my little blue with the finance widgets, whoohoo I do like a rare steak, I'll even eat it blue. Never tried steak tartare, willing to give it a go if I get the opportunity. Food like that is a bit too fancy for the outback ![]() Will have to wait till I go to the 'big smoke' one day.

Steak needs to just be warm. Kill it, cut it, and put it on a plate still mooing and kicking. If it is store bought just wave a match under it for a little bit.

Rick build a grill on a slant, plate at the bottom steak at the top. It slides down, lands on plate ready to eat.

You'd just need to wave a gas axe over the top side as it slides down...Perfect!
