I hear what you are saying but I've "not waited" for a girl my whole life up to this point in the sense that I just do stuff on my own. This whole month has been about the advice that girls are not just going to fall into my lap so to speak. I need to go looking. But it seems that what you are saying is not to act like it doesn't matter, act like I have someone better to do. Yes, that was meant as a play on words.

And goodness gracious, I realize I am dishing out dating advice and I am hanging out on this forum on a Saturday night. Ironic, isn't it?

But for the record, I am usually home on the weekends because I have my boys. Although I have to say PPOT isn't a bad substitute for a hot date.

I am home on Saturday nights because, well, I just don't get excited about night life. I guess I'd rather be alone. So be it.

Bingo, Max! Then you know what the girl thinks? Wait, he doesn't want me? Why? Does he have somebody else? Does he not think I am pretty enough? Funny enough? Smart enough? Well, I'll show him. I have to go out with him and show him how cute I can be... Blah blah blah. Hate to say it but ultimately, a lot of people play games like that.

Or you can play the way I play. I got tired of that way. When I like a guy, I tell him. Straight up. If I wanted to go out with a guy because he intrigued me, I asked him out and told him that. Yeah, some guys thought that was too forward but you know what? He probably couldn't handle me anyway. I don't like to play games so I don't. Max, it's just a game. You decide how you want to play it.

Max, I'm home because I don't like going out. I used to when I was your age. Yes, I was a drinker, but guess what! I met my ex-wife in a club on disco night. I hate disco. My car was in the shop and I spent the night at a friends apartment. He and his roommate liked disco. I told them I'd go if they could get me in free and I would drink myself silly. They got me in. Crap! My ex-wife came up to me and started to talk and guess what?? She didn't drink or at least very much. Part of a glass of wine once in a while.

We had a long term relationship before getting married, so we got used to staying home, having something of a married life. After that fell apart, besides being very depressed, I no longer enjoyed going out. I still don't and it's been about 8 years. My next relationship lasted just about 7 months. I was happy again, but the woman I was dating had a kid and was also used to staying home - she had been married as well. Two days after telling my mom how great things were, she ended things. Crushed me again. That was Jan '07. Now I have two things working against me. I don't like going out and I have a huge wall up.

Get off your ass, man!

I would love to be in such a direct situation but I am too scared to be the one to instigate it at the moment. We will see. I might just get fed up and just say how I feel but between class does not seem like the right setting for it. I would have said how I felt if I would have been able to be with her outside of that situation.

Dave, heed your own advice. You get out there too! You passed your test, now get working on your next task.

I choose to stay home, single.

As for flying, I'd love to, but the marine layer that was here all week pretty much precluded me from taking to the air. My instructor is also gone for a month, so that's not helping either.

This dating thing is so illogical. You have to meet people and ask them to go do stuff, but you can't seem too interested. So it is becoming acquainted with lots of people and then sitting back and waiting to see what comes to you.

Hey, Jim gave his advice without me asking for it.

Hence my saying I can't believe they are all still beating their heads about it.... Pretty obvious to me that you aren't going to get it...

Believe me, max, when the right girl comes, it isn't gonna be like that. You are gonna want to be honest and open with your feelings and vice versa. No games. Look at the G-man.

We ended up finding the quietest corner of the club and talked for a few hours. Things went from there. As far as marriage and divorce, especially divorce. It happens and once the ball starts rolling, there's just about no stopping it. But you don't get to know that up front. You shouldn't be thinking about marriage anyway.

It was more a show of frustration that anything. I lost the challenge that is for sure. I'll continue doing something. Not exactly sure which advice to go with. Don't do too much or go out there and do everything you can. I only have a few weeks left in the quarter. I need to find a girl who lives in SLO so she does not disappear after the summer comes.
