I think I'll have to spend a night in Frankfurt. I just made dinner plans.

The pivot attachment has wear and maintenance. What else wears out on a flat bed trailer? Is it just rust and corrosion that ultimately kills a trailer?

I know almost as much about simi-trailers as I do nuclear power. I understand the basic concept but not much about the real long term operation of either.

I presume at some point it is logical to replace the entire trailer with a new one rather that repair an old one. But unless it is damaged in an accident is would seem like it is logical to keep fixing little wear items. Obviously it is a business and not an emotional attachment like and old 911.
As you suspected.....it's rust that is the major contributor to the need to replace a trailer. They live in a very hostile environment...... salt/chloride spray in the winter
shortens the life of them rapidly around these parts.
Air bags surprisingly last a long time baring any road debris hitting them.
The king pin (pivot attachment) and fifth wheel (on the truck) ,if kept greased, can last 12-15 years. Run them dry and they're gone in no time.

The crane behind me is the same (Manatowoc 2250) as what i have on.
I takes 18 loads to move one. 2 overwidth/ overweight (upper works and car body) 2 overweight (track frames) the rest are legal loads ( counter weights and boom sections)

here's a video of one being loaded out.

Good morning folks.

The morning traffic was very light. I am guessing a LOT of folks did what my wife did and took the day off. With Monday a holiday a lot of folks want a 4 day weekend. My wife took off yesterday and will take off on Tuesday so she has a 6 day weekend.

What has happened to Tweezer? Did she pull a Markus on us and leave.

It is so ironic, the man that started the thread, and the man the thread is named after have both gone missing.

I have watched a few threads buy that same guy. I purchased a system from Griffiths, it works.

Last year's trip to Savannah GA was a real test of the AC. On one of the short day tours we made my wife actually got cold and asked me to turn the temperature up. The ultimate test was driving due west into the sun in 105+ temps with high humidity. We did not get cold then, but we stayed comfortable. The stock system would have been a joke in those conditions.

Griffith's has the best tech support and top quality products. Like John Walker said, cold is cold.

I was just baffled by his first two posts. I was thinking "Is this guy for real?" Once it gets moved to OT I am sure it will really take off with the lolcats.

Gee, I think I will sneak outta here a hour early and get started on my 3 day weekend.

I am about to start an automatic batch project in PhotoShop. It will still be running when I get back to work on Tuesday. A bit over 300 files that are 1.45 gigs each. So I will VNC into my computer to check out the progress a few times in the next few days. The cool part is I can do that with my phone.

This is FRIDAY!!!!

Homeward bound!

Today's lecture was about Bookends. I think there will be more too. I saw a video of the concert in the park yesterday.

Curious... What did the lecture say about Bookends? That song, so simple, very little lyrics, and very short but elicits so much emotion from me. Characteristics of a good song.
