yup. the clutch inspection pdf: www.ducati.ms/forums/attachments/supersport/112537d1340083173-99-clutch-slipping-900ssie-clutch-inspection.pdf

states a minimum of 36.5mm. plus, it seems that all but one of my steel spacers are 1.24 - 1.31mm thick. the height was probably wrong when the PO put it all back together. the material on the friction plates looks okay. not GREAT, but better than i expected.

Slipping causes glazing, even if they are running wet. You can do as you wish but if it were my bike I would use new

Kill it with booze!

Seriously though, I remember that pain..... It'll pass...... Find a distraction....... Do you have any thing that needs a complete rebuild.

gotcha. crap. they run dry. i think i'll get the stack to the right height and sand all the plates with some 1000 grit paper on a glass tabletop. next spring, when it gets new belts, i'll replace the clutch, too.

thanks again, rick.

replace the pain you are experiencing with another kind of pain, more excruciating, like rebuilding a 1977 triumph bonneville motor. that will do it.
