If you want to play with one of the monster images I can save it as a jpeg and FTP it to you. I can find something that we shot for us and not a client image. It is kinda cool to see the entire frame of film.

I can create 1 gig images, but thank you.

I'm just going to RAID 0 the 2 SSD drives, do one last test in PS and call the project closed. I think some filters in PS are just very CPU intensive and the only way to get a big diff in speed, is to have all drives be SSD and have multiple procs with multiple cores to the tune of 6-8 grand. Not a viable option for the home photography enthusiast.

RAID 0 bumped the write time on the SSD's to 289. As single drives, they came in at 189. Read speed did not show a big gain.

slodave, i'd love to be there for you and see what is happening with PS. i am not saying that i could make things better, just that i'd like to see, firsthand, what you are trying to accomplish.

cheers.

If you are playing with PS and decide to deactivate and just format without uninstalling, the PS installer will force you to reinstall to the last drive you chose and will not let you change it.

D, I'm not sure what we are trying to accomplish anymore.

I guess we were just hoping that there would be a bigger performance boost with certain filters that take a while to manipulate an image.

I think at this point, I am trying to understand where the bottleneck is.

Thanks, D. Been in this industry a very long time. I have been at this project four 5 nights now and have read all there is to read about PS.

There is a speed boost with the SSD drives, just not eye opening.

His MB is using the latest x58 chipset. PS just becomes really resource intensive with some features.

My dad usually does not work with such large files. We just tried to overload PS a bit. The only time he may run into large files, is with the occasional photomerge, but he's not a big fan of panoramas, as he does not sell and they take up large real estate on the walls, which my parents have run out of.

Morning all,

Darell, those etching are very cool, and artistic, always lovely to get something that people have done themselves, more personal.

Max I watched that vid, very funny, I just cans't see how they don't fall out!!!! Must be glued in!!!

For some of us I see the weather forecast is talking about the s.... stuff!! But as we are heading to Florida on Friday, i don't think we will get a white Christmas down there!!!!

Still waiting on several crissy parcels that should arrive today, fingers crossed.

Watching the news, there are more gun stores in America that there are MacDonalds stores, holy 5hit!!! Being from Aus we just don't comprehend those sort of numbers. In November alone, 2 million guns were sold in America, again..... holy 5hit!!! I just don't see the need for the semi and automatics high calibre weapons. i know there are some on the thread who have them, but I just can't see the use other than for the "fun" factor, but obviously if you have a nutter in the house, maybe they should be locked away, and if you are the nutter, then you should just stay at home and play with the weapons yourself!!!

We had one of the worst shooting massacres in Australia, in 1996 Martin Bryant killed 35 people including children, and injured 21 others. Following that incident the Aus Govt changed the gun laws; had a buy back scheme for any unwanted weapons, and a gun amnesty for any illegally held weapons, no questions asked; we already had very strict gun laws; we have very very few semi and automatic weapons in Aus, only illegally imported or weapons that have been severely modified.. illegally. I just think that the US should start somewhere, no action is just not the answer.

My rant for today.

Azzy, it is not all the guns that are the problem.

It would be interesting to find out how many people are killed each year in just the USA by drunk driving. Somehow the drunk always seems to survive after killing an entire family. No one is demanding we restrict every single vehicle with a Breathalyzer lockout. Why not? Simple, responsible people don't drive drunk. Responsible gun owners don't kill little kids.

Fortunately in this country we have a thing called a constitution. The 2nd amendment comes right after the right of freedom of speech.

Right now it is 100% legal for me to go buy a fully automatic machine gun. I have to get a federal license and it will take some time but I could have one in a few months. I don't really want a machine gun, but I like to know that I have the freedom to buy one if I want one.

Good morning folks.
