Bugger me! This work stuff is getting in the way of me goofing off today.
Time for me to treat myself to an instant coffee - yummo!

All the talk of guns in the news is getting me riled up. I need to step away from the TV. I try to avoid the issue at home since my parents have a different view of the issue than I do.

But I am trying to not let myself dwell on looking for a relationship. Just enjoying the views around campus (both kinds).

I got some music with a gift card my dad gave me for christmas for the local record store.
I finally got the album Quadrophenia which was what started my interest in classic rock. I got the delux version with the Pete Townshend demos. I also got a CD of CSNY ("So Far") good stuff. But mostly I tried to branch out a bit and got a few Hot Tuna CDs. I am a big Jefferson Airplane fan, and Jorma Kaukonen's guitar was always a big reason why. So with Jack Cassidy and Jorma being the founders of Hot Tuna I decided to try it out. It is bluesy stuff for the most part- more like Surrealistic Pillow but without Grace Slick's vocals unfortunately. A few of their later albums were plugged-in, though. I think my favorites are Yellow Fever and Burgers. Some great playing from Jorma on both of those. I think Volunteers from the Airplane is still a little better- at least the more complex songs like Hey Fredrick and Wooden Ships.

Also, last Sunday, Maurice Van Den Thillaard (Dutchman Photos) shot some pics of my car, along with Chuck Miller's beautiful '73 S. I have to say I like Chuck's paint and wheels better than mine- but my dad likes the black wheels so they stay for now. Maurice is a really cool guy to talk to, and Chuck shared some great stories of growing up around the Ferrari/Alfa dealer and repair shop.
Supposed to be a story on me in Total 911 at some point. The Excellence one took about a year so I don't know when this one might run. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was a fun run on fast Mulholland, though. I got to do multiple high-speed, loud passes for the camera. Twisty Mulholland by the Rock Store was occupied by Tanner Faust for that stupid Ford commercial, so we headed south and ended up going up Stunt and down Saddle Peak Road and Tuna Canyon. I haven't been on either of those last two roads in a car before. I did part of Saddle Peak on my bicycle, but after I came up Piuma-Shueran. I haven't done Stunt on the bike yet. Mostly because the surface seems a whole lot rougher after they re-paved it a few years ago. It felt really rough in the 911. Oh, and Chuck is ****** fast! The way his car cornered was like it was on rails. I definately did not have the confidence in my abilities or my car's to follow him. He's right up there with Dave B and Magnus I would say for speed. I need to get out to the track so I can keep up with him.

But mostly I have been thinking about this alternative fuels class I am taking along with the FSAE suspension design. (I am also in an internal combustion engine class). In the alt. fuels class I have a project with 2 other guys to convert a diesel to run on veggie oil. There were too many people signed up for the SBC methanol conversion (700hp) and this engine has an MFI pump.
![]() The other projects are an electric vehicle battery changing system and a Di-Methyl Ether conversion for a diesel generator. It is all really interesting stuff, along with figuring out steering and suspension geometry that works with the constraints our FSAE car has. I tend to zone out a lot, just looking at the mountains and thinking about stuff. Feels like I am outside the world looking in or something like that. It is pretty far-out.
