Mornin' all. Rainy out there. The dog and I are wet. I guess the garage queen's getting wet, too. At least she gets to spend more time in SoCal than I do.

Jeff, get well ASAP.

Morning Jim, it is raining here as well, the kind of rain that clears the crap from the roads.

Yep...get that salt washed off the road so I can take out my 911...if I can get taxes done. Still waiting for my VA refund from last year.

That's certainly a good thing. Too bad I'm probably going to have to drive some in that. I'm not sure what time or where I have to go to meet the transporter, but I'm pretty sure the driver's not gonna want to come downtown. I guess I can wash the garage queen when it arrives out west.

I'm almost done preparing my taxes. It looks like we gave Uncle Sam a free loan this past year.

I owed about $40k one year...so I just let them take a lot extra each month to be safe. Claim no dependents and have about $500 a month taken out of my mil retirement. Even though loaning a bit to uncle each year is not good...the alternative is not good either.

Stijn!!

We use the same strategy, but this year we have mortgage interest for our place out west to deduct. So, our overpayment went from a tiny amount to quite a lot. We're going to have to reduce the extra with holdings from our paychecks.

I wanted to ask you about what the deal is with your move. Are you doing sone sort of project out west for your current employer and going back and forth?

No, we will retire out there in 2-3 years. We're remodeling the house we bought a little over a year ago, so we can have it ready to move into when we punch out of the workforce.

Yea, Mrs. Carrera gets annoyed when I fall asleep in no time. She can ask me a question and I might answer one of them before I am sleeping.

I see no point in thinking about problems or anything else while laying in bed. I can't do anything about them at that moment. The reason I went to bed was to sleep. That is what I plan to do.

Jim,
I see. I expect we will do the same...as we are stuck with a very nice underwater home in Vegas. We bought it new and started moving in and found out that we were moving...so we never really moved on other than a bed and table. I lived in it about a year, moving in 2007. It is vacant, but I put it up for rent last summer... But no luck. I guess it will be where we retire unless it rents first. Then, all bets are off.

We get screwed on taxes. Married, no kids, no mortgage, two incomes.

Yeah, that was us until recently. We were getting whacked pretty hard each year. Now we have the mortgage on the 2nd home. Our itemized deductions have significantly improved with the mortgage interest and property taxes. When we retire, we'll sell the DC condo and pay off the SoCal house mortgage.

We do ok on taxes with 2 kids, child care expenses, mortgage, lost of work expenses for hubs, non taxable combat pay every other year or so and next year should be good with a nice DoD furlough coming for him in 2 weeks.

We really can't see any logic to going into debt just to reduce the tax liability. The entire tax code needs to be scrapped and start fresh. There is no logical reason citizens should need to hire a CPA to do taxes. Our taxes are simple and I still need Turbo Tax do do my taxes.

Our local PCA region is a non profit educational club. We are tax exempt. We still have to file the taxes each year. I did it for years because it was just one page. Then they "simplified" it. It is 4 pages of gobbledygook. We have a member that is a CPA file the taxes for the club each year.

It is a problem with politics in general. Both parties are to blame.
