they are showing the assault on Fort Wagner by the 54th Black Regiment , what a farce that was, poor bastards didn't have a chance. I think that the guys who make these decisions to charge etc should be in the front of the line, might make them think differently.

i have a couple vicodin in me. i really don't know why people like painkillers. i don't see any kind of recreational fun.

my foot is swollen again. blood test comes back tomorrow regarding uric acid levels. i am hoping it isn't gout, but it sure could be. i don't have many risk factors for gout.

i personally think it is pseudo-gout: calcium phosphate crystals. i have a bit of a history for calcium deposits and such. i had one so large in my shoulder, due to repeated injuries there, that the ER radiologist thought it was a fracture. the sports medicine doc took a couple more x-rays and declared it to be a calcium deposit. that was some serious pain, let me tell you. i couldn't move my arm, it hurt so bad.

Eat some cherries. Don't matter how they are prepared. I recommend Cherry pie. If it's uric acid it will go away very quickly.

Got in trouble at work once for sexual harassment.

Co-worker ask how big my bonus check was. It was a percent of pay bonus and since I didn't want to tell the room any sort of number they could figure my pay from and it was in an office full of guys I said it was enough to last about 2 weeks at the nudie bar. He said I should be careful and not wear a shirt or hat with the company logo. We had an employee reprimanded for eating lunch at Hooter's because he parked the company truck with the logo on it out front. I said I didn't think it would matter because I didn't think anyone that cared if I was wearing a company logo would be there to see me. That's all that was said as I was just passing through the area.

The sexual harassment was that a female employee two offices away overheard me. She complained that I was talking in front of her about going to strip clubs and paying for a bunch girls to dance naked for me. Not sure how two offices away way was right in front of her let alone how the term nudie bar meant all that. but I had to apologize. I made sure I said the words nudie bar, stripe club, strippers, naked and boobies several times in the apology just for spite. She said that it was okay, and wasn't a big deal. Stupid #!?!ch.

From this experience the PC police asshats can go jump half-way over it.

IF cherries didn't help it must not be uric acid. Has helped everyone I know that had the gout.

yeah, i think it is calcium crystals, not uric acid. there are a couple of other possibilities: lead and/or excess iron.

the iron is more likely of those two possibilities, as all the pipes in our house are ferrous and old.

lead is a possibility, i suppose, as i have been doing some shooting and reloading. however, i am pretty careful and wear nitrile gloves.

After laying around with my foot up for 11 months, finally getting to spend some time vertical my feet and ankles are swelling and hurt. I just take some pain killers and go put my feet up, rub them a little, and it goes away. Assume the swelling will go away as my activity level increases. Swelling usually goes down after a little activity or rubbing.

exercise should help with your swelling, as getting the blood circulating with exercise will get the fluid out of the interstitial space and back into your vasculature. it may take some time.

what is the update on your foot, richard?

i need to go to bed. i haven't gotten much sleep since sunday, when my foot decided it was going to be spiteful. last night i got maybe two hours, the night before maybe four. i am nodding off. my wife is going to drive me to work in the morning, as the walk from my car is probably a quarter mile and it just exacerbates the pain and swelling. it took me about 15 minutes to make the walk from my desk to my car.

update on my job, now that i am on the subject: it is awesome. the people i work with are nice and supportive and the team camaraderie is amazing. i find it hard to believe at times.

Foot update is only one wound left. The weght bearing bottom is completely healed and since the only wound is on top Doc says can do anything I want as long as I wear the boot that keeps me from bending the foot. The wound on the top is a combination of the original and the slice made to take out the little toe knuckle. After two dermagraft (artifical skin) treatments in as many weeks the wound on top has gone from 3cm x 5cm to 2.2cm x 2.4cm and 1.5cm deep to .7cm deep.

Walk much and it starts hurting. Operating the gas pedal is okay, but holding the brake at stop lights and such makes it start hurting. So still left foot braking.

Oh yeah, and I get to take a shower and get mu fppt wet Saturday! Going to like not having to bag my foot to take a shower. Wonder if the hair will grow back were I used duct tape to seal the bag against my leg. If not, maybe I'll open up a bikini waxing salon.!

That's pretty good news, Richard. Hope you're back to your old pre-injury self.

Glen, have a safe trip home and thanks again for sharing pics and thoughts about the Parade.

Jim that pick is so funny, love it.

D, wow hope your foot gets better soon (can't believe we have another Stijner down with a bad foot!) Had a friend with Gout about 30 years ago, he was not a happy man, so if the pain your in is anything like that, sympathy from me most certainly heading in your general direction!!!

Richard, glad to hear that your finally on the mend, my gosh you have had a hard time with this whole injury thing, I have never heard of anyone having so much trouble with an injury like that, and it reminds me to never walk around without shoes on. You will hardly remember what your "normal" life is like when you get back to it. Hate to think how much this has all cost you both financially and emotionally. You will need therapy of the brain healing kind when this is all over just to get your head around the "**** why me" factor.

Well off to work, early to work, early home.

Jim, when are you off on the next work-action? Will you be back for the "new" Stijn weekend?down here in Southern Maryland 27-28 Jul?
