Weird, that last post was something I wrote last night. And it just now posted.

Rick, you need to move out here. This is the best part of the year! January to March/April. It is going to be 75 later this week. Warm enough to lay out by the pool.

Went for a hike yesterday. Nice and sunny but cool. Nice view at the top of the hill in Laguna Beach. Today went for another hike, this time a different route in Crystal Cove State Park. It was cloudy in the morning but the marine layer had dissipated by the time I got to the overlook. Beautiful view of the sea and sky. I went for a walk on the beach afterwards. Haven't been on the beach in a long time. Was quite relaxing and peaceful standing there alone by the rocky cliff and listening to the surf.

As nice as this weather is, we need rain. I hope that when the jet stream returns to normal and the rest of the country thaws out that we will have a wet spring.

Okay so the car stereo on the GTS is Kaput. The head unit's display quit working, and had to pull the amp because it was draining the battery.

I was patiently waiting for a project a fellow 928 owner was working on. He was trying to make a plug and play center console retrofit that would fit a carputer with touch screen and to do that was building an electronic controller to replace the factory HVAC controller. Well, he is a hardware engineer and stalled on programming his controller, got frustrated and has given up on the project.

I thought the project was cool because of the possibilities of having a touch screen carputer in the dash. Not only would it provide music, nav, and hands free phone. It can also be the HVAC controller, Remote Display/control for Valentine1, Run the engine tuning software, and run track data aquisition/video.

Talked to the hardware guy friday and have been doing research all weekend. Looks like that it will be time consuming, but the stuff to do it has been around a while and there seems to be a good support community.

Decided to get my nerd on and take over the project.

Anyone ever vinyl wrap a car? I'm thinking about doing it to the Lotus. Looks like I can get enough wrap for well under 1k......whereas everywhere around here starts at ~2k...

I just might....

Joe, it is a very frustrating process. I helped 9Dreizig do a 930 this summer. He had bought some super cheap film though, and it didn't stretch well at all.

That being said. Good film(3M) does stretch well around curves, and there are only a few spots on that lotus that would be tricky. Just be sure to think about how the vinyl is going to bunch or stretch and how you need to work it to avoid that. For example the roof of a 911 you need to make one pass middle front to back and middle side to side to make a cross, and then start to work each quadrant down and work the bubbles and wrinkles out as you go.

If the paint is good, I wouldn't do it. it is a lot of work and you will go through a lot of beer in the process....

The paint is fair....and original....it's the clear coat that needs some help and I'd rather wrap than repaint just for some clear.

So, are we talking roughly a weekend job solo?
All of the film I'm considering is 3M, they seem to have a pretty close match to Calypso Red.
