Yeah, I've looked through there, as well. The spare is snugged down tight. I temporarily removed all the little tools and such in the Styrofoam insert and the right rear still rattled. Trunk is empty. License plate is snugged down and backed with foam at the corners. No license plate frame.
I appreciate the thoughts. Maybe someone can think of something I've missed.

Welp, the vinyl was here when I got home. It looks pretty nice overall....I might start in on it this weekend!
AND, even better, the Aimpoint I ordered and my new canvas hood are at UPS waiting for me to pick them up in the morning!!! Hopefully, I'll get the timing set on the Series this weekend, swap the new carb in, throw the top on and get her nice and muddy. |

This... That's what I run on the 944 and I really like them. Not too dirty or loud, and stop great!

Fuuuuukkkkk! Again?! I hate it when that happens. Local Honda stealer is always back ordered on those.

If I've got rear drum brakes that are original (car has 78K miles on it), would wear or play in the braking system cause this rattle? The shoes still look like they've got about 50% pad material on them. And only the right rear rattles.

I really like Laguna. It's got history. It's semi-close to home. And it's got a lot of character, with the elevation changes. Other than the infield section around the lake between turns 2 and 5, you're always going up or down.

There's a chapter in Rob Siegels book about getting cars free from rattles, squeaks, and clunks. He says seats (at least on older cars) often make noise from the rails and he will remove a seat and drive the car to determine if that is the cause and then move on to the next noise which could be a trim piece, etc. But on a new car I don't know what it would be other than a heat shield or exhaust hangar. And you probably don't want to start taking the back seat out.

Windscreen was hit by a rock thrown by a road train. We're in the waiting room of the repair shop chillin.
The front shocks get new bushes pushed in first thing in the morning (7:30am) on our way out of Adelaide. A short drive tomorrow to Sharyn's parents home, just a lazy 800kms. |

The rattle/clunk is aft of the rear seats. Even rear seat passengers say so.

Speakers/grilles on the parcel shelf? Evaporative emissions stuff in the fuel filler neck area? Catalyst broken with some of the matrix rattling inside?

Bumper or fender is about to fall off. Or someone put a loose wrench, nut or screwdriver inside the fender panel on the assembly line as a sick joke.
Mom's Crown Vic got rear ended at a light. The guy did a hit and run. I tried to pull the bumper back out but didn't have enough leverage. Never bothered to take it to a professional, just the right side of the bumper hung down a couple of inches. A couple of years later Mom turned too sharp out of a parking lot and caught the edge of the rear bumper on a high curb. It pulled the bumper out perfectly. You couldn't tell it had ever been hit or bent.

Maybe something in the cavity under the back seat window (like a broken piece of window mechanism or possibly missing the rubber bit that is used to snub (take up slack) in trunk/hatch after latching.
