There's always a screaming kid on the flight. Pretty much always! The trick is to be prepared. I use comfy earplugs plus Bose QC15s. Kills just about everything.

Cheater!

The biggest problem with air flight now days is the sick people. Virtually every time my wife flies she comes home sick. Once with whooping cough!

My wife and I both wear face masks from Costco. We get strange looks while flying in the US. I still manage to catch colds, though.

It sounds better if you think of it as just a 2,175 mile trip.

I presume it is not a airplane trip.

Yeah, I'm a bit of geek for their history and tales. These are the books I've read over the years:

- Beowulf
- Eirik The Red and Other Icelandic Sagas
- Egil's Saga
- Heimskringla (the Old Norse kings' sagas)

Lots good clean Viking fun.

When I was in high school our English teacher assigned us to read Beowulf. If I ever get insomnia I will get that and Ivanhoe. Both of those could put me to sleep while I was walking down the hall. I had to get the cliff notes on both of them because I was sleeping all the time trying to read them. Of course Shakespeare does the same thing. It needs more car chases and explosions.

Maybe as an adult I could enjoy them more, but as a teenager that were crushingly boring.

Very cool! There are some very interesting sagas and tales!

I am right now trying to read this one:
http://www.antikvariat.net/AIN17158.cgi
It is very hard to read.

And I would like to try Eddan:

It's a poem. If you get into the "tempo," it makes it a lot easier to read. It has all sorts of good blood and guts action, too.

Edda - Snorri Sturluson, Anthony Faulkes - Bok (9780460876162) | Bokus bokhandel
I wonder how much that first book, the Nordiska Kungasagor, overlaps the Heimskringla. Both seem to be sagas of the old Norse kings.

Lol, yes, I know that poem/rythm.

Heimskringla is the same as Nordiska Kungasagor, just another name for it.
Heimskringla is mentioned in Jules Vernes "Journey to the Center of the Earth".

Funny fact: there is a newspaper in Icelandic language in Winnipeg in Manitoba called Heimskringla. :-)

For those who wants to check this out:

Happy Hump Day all....

For a long time after learning to speed read I could only enjoy books if they were unabridged books on tape, i.e. somebody reads the book to me. Don't know why, but if they shortened the books, it still put me to sleep.

Well, last night I was really pissed off. Went over to the property and saw the work and mess that the painters did. The seller hired them and I didn't really have a say.

Well they spilled paint all over the red brick in various (NUMEROUS) spots. They didn't do everything they were suppose to. Hence why I was there to begin with to finish the job so the lender would move forward with the loan. This guy is trying to charge $1400 for this between me and the seller. I told the guy on the phone that I am not paying a sent. I am getting a brick cleaning and restoration company to quote me on the damages done and sending him that bill.

This is why I always do my own work!!!!!

Morning all.

Andy that sucks, don't you hate people who pass themselves off as "tradesmen", they should be accountable for their work, so go for it, don't like your chances though.

Newbies on the Stijn, welcome, jeez, I don't look in for a few days and we have newbies. Hope they have read from the start, or at least attempted to...

Recently had shoddy work done, the finish carpenters did a horrible job matching the new baseboards to the rest of the woodwork. I had no say in the matter. Just supposed to be happy my bro and sis paid for it to be done from Mom's money I've been saving by better managing her care. Especially no say on what they did or how they did the work, or when or how much the *@#$#tards got paid for doing the shoddy work.

Also don't understand why when they put the new floor in, AND had ripped off all the baseboards, Why the *#$K can't you lay the floor so the baseboards alone cover the edges (like when the house was built!) instead of adding 1/4 round after putting new baseboards up?!? When I pointed to original baseboards they would just say well, that's because that was the original flooring. (#$#$# it I know the sheetrock was up when they did the @#$#@ing original floors and didn't have to put down 1/4 round. Stupid *#$#ks.

Now you got ME all pissed off again, thanks a bunch.

Guess it still hasn't been long enough for me to redo my baseboards and the edges of the vinyl plank flooring without turning bright red and making it worse.

There has got to be some people out there besides Mike Holmes that specialize in fixing shoddy work.

Here is a hilarious ad from a guy selling a 928. Doesn't actually state why he is selling it, but I think it is inferred...

(Picture of fuse and relay board.)
Picture Represents What You'll Be Looking At Most Of The Time With This Car

Mostly Complete List Of Faults (Bring A Flatbed Unless You're Feeling Lucky)

- Driver's side door only opens from the inside
- 174,000 miles and the odometer is busted (which previous owner didn't ****ing tell me)
- NUMEROUS electrical faults (Lights, wipers, and radio may or may not work)
- Smells musty as ****
- AC doesn't work and I don't know exactly how ****ed the system is
- Because it's a Porsche, even the ****ing GAS CAP is Special and the one it has now doesn't let the door fully close
- The wheel hub can fail on you, leaving you without braking power, and all it sounds like is road noise right up until your wheel is about to fall the **** off
- Seriously, it's a Porsche, EVERYTHING is Special & Expensive
- Various electrical faults mean the battery drains overnight so BRING A BATTERY if you want to take a chance on driving it anywhere
- One of the body panels doesn't quite ****ing match
- Speedometer broke within days of buying the ****ing thing
- Feels like you're doing 50 when in fact you're going over 80 on the 101 when it's wet
- Amazing ability to have **** break on you at the worst possible moment
- Huge V8 engine means this bastard is not particularly cheap to run around even in the best of repair
- This may tempt you to outrun cops (don't try, you don't outrun a God damn Motorola radio)
- Even though it's a Porsche, it's not considered a REAL Porsche by Real Porsche Guys
- Real Porsche Guys will SPIT ON YOU
- Yes, they will SPIT ON YOU
- They are good at knowing when you're going to OPEN YOUR MOUTH to mention the V8 motor and their aim is BALLS-ON
- The motor's in the front, the battery's in the back, and it's technically a hatchback kinda-sorta?
- As the most powerfully-engined Porsche ever made, it is highly likely to kill your dumb ass
- It stranded MY dumb ass in ****ing BARSTOW for a ****ing WEEK
- It may well make you realize exactly how much you HATE DRIVING
- The registration is out of date a couple-few years; if you're turned off by a little extra expense THIS IS CLEARLY NOT THE ****ING CAR FOR YOU, PRIVATE PYLE

---- SUGGESTED USES FOR THIS CURSED CAR ----

- Enter it into a Demolition Derby and turn some ****ing heads (and maybe make some dudes cry in the stands)
- Do you have a son you don't like? Get it running and let him borrow it. Nature will quickly take its course!
- Nobody's really tried to get into the "car-eating" game since Michel Lotito, so why not give it a shot? The relatively nice leather interior will go down smoothest, but I suggest a Sawzall to get the rest down to eating size. Bon appetit!
- You can **** IT for all I care
- Literally **** it. Stick your dick in the tailpipe. Let the stick-shift (yes, stick-shift, not many 928's came out in manual) penetrate your insides and feel that warm V8 pulse your guts with PURE PLEASURE. Disassemble the vehicle entirely and SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS piece-by-piece as a bold new erotic experimental art exhibition. The point is, I DON'T ****ING CARE WHAT YOU DO WITH THIS CAR. IT'S PISSING OFF MY GOOD LANDLORD AND I AM REALLY TEMPTED TO JUST SELL IT FOR SCRAP SO IT DOESN'T **** ANYONE ELSE.

DESPITE ALL THAT, THE PRICE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.

If 25 bills even makes you BAT AN EYE, YOU CAN'T REALLY AFFORD THIS CAR. BRING A MEANS OF TOWING, PREFERABLY ONE YOU OWN. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

ALL CASH WILL BE PEN-CHECKED AT MY BANK.

IF YOU THINK I'LL LET YOU TAKE IT BEFORE A CHECK CLEARS YOU'RE A DUMB MOTHER****ER SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL BRING CASH.

IF YOU WANNA HAGGLE, THIS IS THE ONLY DEAL: I'LL ONLY NEGOTIATE IF YOU CAN DO MORE PUSH-UPS THAN I CAN. THIS ISN'T HARD. ALSO, BY HAGGLING YOU CONSENT TO THE CAMEL CLUTCH AND SUBSEQUENT HUMBLING. DO YOU REALLY WANNA RISK THAT?

If you couldn't tell from the above, this is AS-IS. Text or e-mail preferred; if you MUST call, PLEASE make it between 8 AM and 8 PM. There may be a quiz.
do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers

lol, now that's an amusing ad, me thinks he has a problem, sounds like it might have been in a flood somewhere and picked up a few electrical and other issues.

Everyone on the 928 board seems to think his problems and attitude are related to the mentioned forced stay in Barstow.
