My folks used to get calls almost monthly trying to sell them DSL. Dad would always say sure sign me up! Then they would run the address and say you are too far away for the service to reach on the lines. At which point he would rip the sales person a new one because they had to pay a "line maintenance fee" on their commercial phone bill. After a few months of that somebody finally removed him from the call list! He would have gladly payed for DSL service if they could have brought it him!

Got called trying to get me to take a credit card.
Told them I didn't believe in credit cards.
Said I needed one for emergencies.
Said my God took care of me and my emergencies.
Kept telling me I needed a credit card.
Told him credit cards were of Satan and asked if he was a minion of Satan.
He said yes.
I screamed and hung up.

Think we both got a good laugh from it.

Right after we got our first cordless phone we were getting automated sales calls that wanted us to leave our contact information on a recording so they could have a salesperson call us back. I always ran to the bathroom and filled their tape with sounds of raspberries and the toilet flushing.

Well the new company just sent around their insurance package. Looks like I'll not be getting paid more and spending an extra $460/month on insurance. Seems larger is not better.

Along the phone topic. We hardly ever answer the phone. If they leave a message its important if not they hang up and I don't have to deal with them.

Evening Y'all,
On the rare occasion that I get a spammed phone call I always just tell them I am not interested and to have a nice day, if they open their mouths with anything other than telling me bye, it is on like donkey kong and I am overly rude, violent and crude. Doesn't do any good I know but it is always so visceral
We had one hell of a frost this morning and I could have used a Sid to scrape my windows........

We get a lot of calls on the home land line. If I don't know who they are, I don't answer. And as mentioned above, if it is even a little important they will leave a message. If no message I don't care.

My Mom had a friend that would leave messages about 15 to 20 minutes long and would only say in all that time who she was and she wanted to see how we were doing. Maybe 3 or 4 times.

They say it's the morning...Good Morning to ya. <- sing as KISS song happy birthday.

Didn't win the lottery. Still think I had about the same odds as actually buying a ticket and it cost nothing.
Can't say it's like the odds you won't get bitten by a shark if you don't go near the ocean...Sharknado!!

We have no home land line. Neither of us answers our cell phones for numbers we don't recognize. If they leave a message, we will return the call if it's important to us.

I really don't care for winter. Really. No kidding.

This weekend is the annual Washington DC area RV show, which, of course, is held in northern VA. We're going to check out the latest Class B offerings, as my wife pines for one of those beasties (to buy a used one) some time in the next few years. I get lots of husband points for taking her to window shop at the show each year. I try to cash some of those points in by dragging her along with me to the sailboat show each year.

Now that's the right kind of thinking! Although, I'd go a bit smaller on the RV and a bit bigger on the sailboat.

Morning all.

I installed the latest version of Photoshop CC on the big boy computer. I was really hopeful that it could open the huge tiff file but 36 gig tiff files are way to big for Photoshop. I did export a 20 gig part of the image and I could open it in Photoshop but it will not write a tiff file that big.

If can open the file, and then just try to save as, and it will not write any file except the .psb format which none of the mapping programs can use.

From the reading is looks like the little bitty 4 gig tiff files are as big as it can handle.

Says it can save tiff files up to 4GB

Part of the reason everything is limited to 2GB is that is the limit of a LOT of OS's files.
The backups from my Mail Server are in 2GB chunks because of that.

On the Mac Disk Images, .dmg looks like a large file (the size of a disk) but they are actually containers that mount like a disk with a bunch of regular sized files.

Seems like with cameras and scanner now making really big files they would update this so they could manage bigger files. I think they is a limit to most programs of what they consider a lot of ram ie 2GB and the file is copied from ram to the disk.

Seem to remember a graphics program from way back that would let you edit graphics much larger than your memory. It loaded chunks into memory and if you zoomed or moved around it would start the disk whirring and redraw. Don't remember what it's name was, don't think it was photoshop though.

I don't care if other people have old retarded systems. I have a 5 TB spinning hard drive, two gig of SSD, partition, 128 gig of ram and 12 core CPUs. Gimmie more power!

It comes up with a warning that older systems can't read that. I don't care! I don't care that a Commodore 64 can't read it. No one else will ever have to see the file. It is just part of the production of my final image and all of the intermediate files will be trashed once the final is done.

I have several different mapping programs that don't even blink with files that big. Our "go to" program opens up that full mosaic in 15 seconds and it is ready to work.

It is 2016 not 1996. Go big or go home.
