Hiked thru very rural Arkansas when in Scouts. Scoutmaster showed us the old school house where he grew up. I noticed the crank a bucket up water well for the school was about 50 ft downhill from the outhouse.

but when you are thirsty, anything will do.

Speaking of yummy, I have a pork roast simmering for supper tonight. Seared it on all sides before tossing it into the slow cooker.

Had pork tacos for lunch. They were called spicy pork tacos, but they weren't very spicy.

Refused to fill my canteen at that well. Got my water from the drinking water taps at the camp areas we stopped at. And still filtered, heated, and put tablets in it so I wouldn't get sick. It was before bottled water existed.

Went to the pet store and left Pepper in the Cayenne.
Noticed there quite a few people coming and going from the store and I got the first spot closest to the door. They were all stopping to pet her as I left the back windows half way down (as far as they go). She hangs out the window to get people's attention, but never barks. Several people commented on what a pretty dog she was and enjoyed my phone video of her saying "Hello". A couple were afraid she was going to jump out cause she hangs more than half out the window if someone is there she can get attention from. Re-assured them that she has never jumped out.

It was all real positive until going up to the cashier. A store employee told me a lady had called the police for having my dog in the car. The stupid old lady got all pissy and said "It's 95 degrees outside and over 110 degrees in that car and that dog is going to die whether the windows are down or not." In the first place my phone and dash both said it was 88°F not 95, and both back windows were half way down with a slight breeze. And besides, most of the time Pepper was hanging more than half out the window trying, and getting people's attention. Everyone in the store were telling the lady she was wrong, but she would have none of it and was yelling the same thing over and over at me while I was waiting for one person in front of me at the cashier. Even the cashier was rolling her eyes at the lady and saying NO when the lady asked if she agreed with her. One other lady said you aren't supposed to leave your dog in a car if it's over 93°. Pulled up my weather app and showed her is was 88°.

The policeman got there quick, it was only two minutes after I heard they had been called till he pulled up. Didn't even have time to pay for my stuff. The lady quit griping at me and rushed over to him pointed at Pepper, and then at me coming out. She started to follow him as I walked to my car and he told her to stay at his car. He came over and told me she had called and said I had a dog locked up in the car getting too hot, But he sees I have the windows down and she didn't look hot at all. Maybe a little excited, but not hot. Said when he first pulled up he saw my dog hanging out and was expecting the call was about a different car. He chatted with me about Pepper until he saw the lady walk off then told me to have a nice day and left.

I know, I know, I'm such a mean, abusive, and uncaring dog owner.

Glad it worked out Richard.

With so many videos out there showing folks going vigilante when dogs are left in hot cars, I'm not surprised she called the cops.

I saw a bulldog sitting in a car today but all 4 windows were down enough and it wasn't struggling or even panting so I went about my business. It was around 80 degrees at the time.

Now, if it were a toddler/child my decision to intervene would be different.

When I got in the car it was not hot at all there was a breeze blowing thru the windows. Besides, if someone really wanted to do something, they could have just helped her jump out the freakin window. It's not like they were rolled up far enough she couldn't get out. She just doesn't know she can.

Any time she sees someone walking around she goes out the window as far and as high as she can get just to get attention. Always has, even when she was a little puppy. The staff at the grocery store have learnt to asked if it's a dark red Porsche when people tell them their is a dog trying to get out of a car. Then they say, oh that's just Pepper, she likes sticking out the window, likes to be petted, and doesn't jump out.

Morning, y'all. Richard, I feel your pain/annoyance. We're always cautious about the times we leave Kiera in the car.

Our first lab Theresa did not like strangers until I liked them or at least didn't care enough to not dislike them. Once when I was getting gas she rode a long and a panhandler came up to pester about money. I must have looked annoyed to Theresa because she put her head up to the window and gave "the look" and the panhandler took one look and couldn't leave fast enough.

Our current lab loves everyone but our bagel is suspicious of everyone so they make a good pair. The lab will yip now and then but when she means it she sounds like a 150lb Rottweiler. Make the hair on my neck stand up even.

We have two dachshunds, a female long hair and a male smooth hair. The female received some sort of insect bite or sting on her foot at about her ankle. We have no idea what got her. We noticed she was licking her foot a lot and not acting normal and the site was swollen. Off to the vet and he drained the spot. He sent a sample of the fluid to OSU vet school to see if they had an idea and they agreed it was not a tumor or normal infection from a cut, likely a sting or bite. So pills are prescribed.

The pills have to hidden in a soft treat. We had to go buy some treats she would snarf down. Of course the male figures if treats are handed out he deserves one as well.

The funniest part is any treat in my right hand is what he wants. He only goes to a right hand. So I have to remember to put the treat with the pill in the left hand. She is doing a lot better after just a few days of treatment. She is back to acting normal and the swelling is way down.

We will never know what zapped her.

You haven't been out to Tweeze and Sid's lately? Do you have scorpions down there?

We have some scorpions but they are not real poisonous around here. I figure is was likely a yellow jacket or wasp possibly a scorpion. The main thing is she is getting over it and the vet bill was expensive but we can afford it.

Vet bills are only expensive if you don't like the dog. I wasn't sure if hornets and wasps would swell like that on a dog, but I guess each is different.

Yea, back in my younger and single days a dog adopted me. She was a doberman and shy. She just showed up on my front porch. I gave her food and water and left he on the porch in case someone was looking for her. After two days and the mail man really not liking a doberman on the porch I put her the back yard and then brought her inside.

After the first vet visit I realized how expensive a free dog can be.

She was real smart and easy to train. In no time she turned into a Will Rogers dog. She never met a person she did not like. Most people are afraid of dobermans. She loved to play with tennis balls and the neighborhood kids learned she was fun. They would knock on the door and ask if they could play with her and I would send them to the back yard. She would run around for hours in the back yard.

One night at about 2:30 AM someone was pounding on the front door. She started barking and growling at the door and making noises that would have made me wet my pants if she looked and me and made those sounds. Whoever it was left without incident. It was right after that I bought my first handgun. I realized all I had to defend myself was a barking dog and a butcher knife. Thankfully no intruder has ever tried to test my marksmanship by entering without permission.
