Xmas presents for college aged guys...BRPORSCHE/porsche4life...you guys out there?

Need some ideas for college aged "men"...budget in the $50-100 range. Gotta get something for the stepdtrs bf's and a few of my stepson's buddies. Most are into hunting, one into video gaming, all living away in apts or rented houses. Cash is king (even in modest amounts) and a gift card to gaming store/hunting supply places or even gas cards would be appreciated but seems kins impersonal.

Any ideas?

If you know what kind of booze they like, a few bottles of that would be the most appreciated personalized gift. Otherwise, nothing can compete with cash. The main thing I spend money on is going out and partying. It gets expensive quick. That or I buy electronics or outdoor gear, and most of that stuff exceeds your budget.

A nice bottle of 12 year old Glenlivet, and a case of some good beer would be a great present for me.

Before I got my current job, $100 was huge. Instead of just buying them booze outright, which to me that would be a little weird if i was younger then 21, just get them a gift card to walmart for "supplies."

Garrett, if I could get back all the money I have spent on beer the past 4 years I could probabaly buy a fairly nice longhood....sigh. IT SURE AS HELL WAS WORTH IT THOUGH!

Since I've represented more than one of them on such charges as MIP of alcohol and one zero-tolerance DUI, I really don't think I'll be giving booze Maybe I'll get each of them some lame self-help book or the like and tuck a $100 in the pages to see if they even looked at it.

Wow.

When I was in college ('96-'00), when I lived in the dorms (thus food and housing were paid for), a cup at a party wa $3 for all you could drink (usually The Beast or Keystone or Busch Light). So $6 to get wasted twice a week. That works out to $48 a semester.

Of course, we would often "stay in" to drink in the winter. A 30-pack of Natural Ice was around $10. So split 3 ways with tax, that worked out to around $4 to get drunk...

WTF should YOU be giving presents to the boyfriends of your step-daughters. They should feel lucky you are not giving them the business end of a shotgun!

I'm trying to work out a no-present Christmas and Birthdays between my sisters. I hate the "trading checks" thing. A small, $25 or less gift & card, usually something funny and Ironic.

But the boyfriends of your step-daughters? That is insane. I vote nothing. My parents never gave presents to my girlfriends. Wives/husbands would be different, maybe fiance. But boyfriends?

I'm that age and I can damn sure tell the difference...having said that, I drink the cheap stuff almost exclusively. That's why it would be nice to get the expensive stuff as a gift.

I'm very confident that the only gift I will get from anyone is cash as I don't really need any new stuff. What I do need is to pay for my winter break trip to Aspen and my spring break trip to Jackson Hole. Since both of those things cost way more than anyone would give me, I will get money to defray some of the costs.

I belonged to a "party house". You could go there and drink, no charge. But if you were a "regular", you were expected to pay for a keg, once a tri-mester. The beer was "Busch" beer and it ran $20/keg. I was a "Busch-buddy"

A 30 of Natty here is about $15. A typical night probably means that is split three ways for the pregame. Then you go to the bar, pay a $3 cover and get 2-3 drinks at average of $4-5 each. Then maybe you grab a sandwich on the way home for $4. That's $20 right there for a very calm night. Things can ratchet up quickly from there. On thursdays we get margaritas because they are on special for $13 a pitcher. But there are no deals on friday and saturday. I tend to go out 2-3 times a week. It adds up fast. I don't plan on doing this forever, but that's the scene right now.

Bingo. I can easily spend 50-60 bucks on a fri/sat. Thanksfully, I don't do that anymore. Houston just isn't a college town with college priced drinks. Means I do my drinking on tuesday and wendesday, and my wrenching on the weekends.
