Well, if you read the art books I recommend, you'd recognize the use of the gold halo. Mandatory for religious paintings back in the day, it would either be used for Mary M. or Jesus. Given the beard, I'm hoping that's Jesus.
See what a little knowledge will do for you... ![]() JR |

Then, several years ago, I saw a documentary of his work, a large part of which was in conversation with Serra. Turns out that I discovered the man is brilliant, down to earth and extremely well spoken. By the end of the show, I had a deep appreciation and understanding of what he has done that completely altered my visual perception of his work. I was VERY much taken by surprise and felt a bit foolish for having previously written his work off as trivial. It turns out that he's considered one of the most important sculptors of his era - learning what I learned about what his work is about literally opened my eyes to see what had escaped me before. No, it takes one week, three days and five hours on average.

Ironically, no; it's Zarathustra, as in Thus Spake Zarathustra, written by Friedrich "God is dead" Nietzsche.

You're ashamed of your work. You know it... we know it... you might as well admit it outright. You have never been able to connect the dots and get the joke... why am I not surprised you couldn't do it here, either? L O L ![]() Quote:

One thing I have always wondered about Serra's work is just exactly how he bends the steel. That stuff is quite thick and it is not bent easily. Nor is it always bent in the same plane. Just handling it has to be a challenge. I also wonder how it gets transporrted and installed.
For what it's worth, I do study books about my favorite artists, so I usually know more than I would otherwise. I still say I get the most out of art by studying the individual pieces. I'm not the kind of guy that moves through a museum at half trot. JR |

Lot out there on Serra - haven't found the one I watched, which covered his whole career.

Serra bends the steel on the old "english wheels" if that is what they are still called when they are the things that were used to bend the steel for WWII battleships.
And Miro would be quite pleased to know his work made you burst out laughing.

Serra is one of the great ones.
I especially find it so impressive how the crusty paint stick "drawings" are related to those giant pieces. How very difficult to convey so much with such a simple basic, minimal idea. One of the most worthy successors to that little black square - but sheet, that little black square still has him beat.

For one thing, i drew my dragon while half asleep...totally from imagination. With a bic pen. On lined paper. It was a wildly half-assed attempt at capturing a tormenter from a series of dreams. He forged a mighty clothes pin. You're kidding....right? Last edited by m21sniper; 01-30-2010 at 08:19 PM.. |

Blah, blah, blah...your taunts are of no consequence to me.
95,600,000 google hits for "dragon art" seem to contradict your -as usual- idiotic statement. http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=dragon+art&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Now, if only i could create real art and forge a 10 foot replica of a clothes pin. Or piss in a jar. Last edited by m21sniper; 01-30-2010 at 08:44 PM.. |

I really don't think that i am. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
You have about 10,000 people in your life tell you that you excel at something, it doesn't really matter when the occasional douche disagrees. ![]() But thanks for your critique. |
