928 and Panamera-
Two Porsche V8's butt-to-butt!
I walked out of the local Publix today [sorry: Publix is the grocery store in Florida], and since I practice Egyptian parking [meaning that I park out in B F Egypt at all times to avoid door dings~], I had a bit of a drive to come out of the store on Sunrise Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. I rounded the corner, and suddenly...what did I see? A Panamera! Parked at the curb, in the fire lane. That is rude and stupid, but my thoughts went IMMEDIATELY to my digital camera, sitting next to my wallet on the drivers' side tray! I quickly pulled up next to the curb and used my rear-view mirror to back up the the Panamera. What I didn't realize was that the Panamera owner was sitting in the car, and he saw everything I was doing. He kept putting his car in reverse....and his backup lights were flashing at me, telling me that he wasn't comfortable with what I was doing. Fine, I stopped what looked like 6 feet/2 meters, but it was actually quite a bit more and the picture sucks as a result! Oh well. He's probably someone like the PO of my car, who was proud to tell me that his mechanic was a "German", and I suspect that if you asked him to show you the car, he would point to the Porsche shield on the hood first. And the first thing he would say is that it is "gold plated". -ANYWAY......Here's the picture! That car is FAR better in person than in pictures, but I cannot get over how big it actually is!

You should have rear-ended him.

Legion, you and Groucho have a great sense of humor..... few can appreciate.
Normy, I like the picture and LOVE that 928. Although I don't care for the back side of the Panamera, at least it's different and distinguishable. It is big, but hopefully it's got some other manufactures attention. So far, sales have been pretty good. The 928 was considered a sacrilege and ugly in 1978 as well. Minus the maintenance (less than a Ferrari or Lamborghini), It's still a h*ll of of car, just got to find a good one. Karl 88 Targa |

The Panamera is absolutely hideous.

You might see more similarity if it were a 2nd gen 928 with the different rear lights - more similar to those of the panamera.

I think it's a great shot, and a pretty funny story about the prick inside the Porsche. What a douche nozzle.

I wish you parked it closer for a better picture.

I think black on black, heavily tinted 928's with updated wheels are mindblowingly sexy.
As produced by the factory- not so much.

I keep waiting for someone that has actually driven one to post their impressions. That's the whole point of a car, is it not?

fixed it for you
That panamera is a big pig. Look how huge it is compared to the 928, even if you take into account any perspective. Might as well have built a minivan. Like I predict in other threads though, it will be a huge seller with whipped guys that can't have anything but a 4 seater.
This will only make our air cooled cars go through the roof. Shoot, even the 928 will be more popular now. ![]() George

I still wouldn't throw it out of the garage.
Maybe JR and I should find one, and report back....:>) Karl 88 Targa |

I've driven a base model and ridden in a Turbo. Even the base model is a seriously fast car to be so freaking big. It handles like a sports car, accelerates incredibly smoothly and if you hit the right buttons has a very nice deep growl from the exhaust. They're very nicely appointed on the interior and have loads of nice features, including a small (gauge-sized) second navigation display on the dash next to the speedo. It seems a little gimmicky, but it was nice to be able to look at the nav screen without having to take your eyes too far off the road. The turbo is mind-numbingly fast for a four door, but then it is a sub 4 second 0-60 even with a moron behind the wheel. The base model is slightly slower than an S63 and the turbo is a bit faster, both are a little smoother and feel more refined on the road.

Even a blind Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman" picked a sexy Ferrari to drive. Just sayin'...
