Funny, I have a VW van, but for me, it should really have one of those bumpersticker that reads; Who are 'The Dead' - and why are they following me?' I know that a car's styling/identity (as perceived by most) doesn't always mesh well with my personal identity(whatever that is - beige, I suppose ) ...but that's not as important to me as the other metrics of the machine. The Cayenne, I never wanted to like. Again, like the Panamera, the styling never said "Porsche" to me. In fact, compared to the Touareg, the exterior styling does appear, as Clarkson said, like a 996 that backed into a shed. BUT, the interior of the Cayenne is far superior to that of the Touareg. And, since I'm the one looking at / interfacing with the interior I just couldn't go with the T-reg. ...plus the 955 just drives better, and works better in every way. ...even the doors (aluminum) close with more 'quality' than the steel doors of the T-reg. Speaking of doors; have you seen the cool door hold devices on the Panamera? --no detents. ...the door just stays, to whatever angle you open it to. Ironically, the only thing that I really dislike about the Panamera is the busy interior. Far too many busy fussy chrome buttons.

If i bought a Panamera it would only be to put the V8, trans and suspension in a car worthy of it. I would junk the body after i gutted it. Actually, first i would shoot it full of holes on video, THEN i would junk it. The car looks like a partial birth abortion. Last edited by m21sniper; 04-27-2010 at 11:31 AM.. |

"I was sloppy in my wording - sorry. To be even more precise; people care about their mind's-eye narrative, and how the car meshes with that self-narrative. Just look at the stereotypical Prius driver, or the short guy driving the big RAM/SuperDoodie.... Too many strive to tell the world who they are, through the style of their car --as if anyone really cares."
I can definitely agree with that. I suffer it myself as does everyone to some degree. For a few years I drove a beater Ford Escort to work in the Winter. I liked doing it because I saved wear and tear on more valuable cars- but I didn't like being perceived as a "loser" which, sad to say, happened often in that Escort. I conciously try to avoid doing it to other cars but, for example, when I see a Prius moving slowly in the left lane covered with every Obama/Greenpeace/Coexist bumper sticker in the world it's impossible to not to think enviro-nerd. |

But, hey, I think people who buy GT3 RS's for the street are foolish. |
