whoa..looks great.

but i would be reluctant to bury that briney oyster flavor that deep.

vash 09-21-2017 08:53 AM

hey..September!! time to eat oysters again around here!!!

vash 09-21-2017 08:54 AM

the other day, i had some kids over. they wanted BOXED mac-cheese. wife actually bought two of the blue boxes. (i'll toss them into the "earthquake corner",,next to spam)

i couldnt do it. i forced the kids to eat my own creation. besides the curly noodles that they thought were weird..they loved it. i even snuck in some braised garden tomatos.

Kraft Deluxe is the KING of Mac and Cheese. Paul Bocuse himself couldn't better it.

Not even a Canadian could screw it up, although they try to make it every day.

Can't wait! A group of us are going to get a bushel and sit around it with a grill, fryer and multiple ingredients like butter, bacon, grated parm and various sauces and make the bushel disappear.

Sometimes, but they're not fully cooked. More like 'warmed up'

That was my take on Oysters Kilpatrick. Occasionally I'll do a mornay in the shell, or natural, or with a salsa.

Last week I made a bisque, cooked some finely chopped king prawns in the bisque, drizzled it over some fresh oysters, topped them with an aged chedder, then put them under the broiler. That was bloody good!

the job is next to some oyster beds. i really should have brought an icechest. damnit.

If you have a knife, and a few minutes, just help yourself. No need to bring them home, eat them on the spot...

Well no pics but hosted a party to celebrate some of our daughters participation in a fiddlers festival and feasted on a bushel or so of delicious steamed crabs. Redneck style in the pole barn.

that works for me. I had a few over the weekend, supposed to be local. Excellent! Cool to watch 1 guy shuck nonstop, he was a machine.

oyster shucking tip:

get a knife with a NewHaven style tip. it has a slight curve. somehow it makes opening an oyster much easier. (for me..and i am marginal at best)

I tuck the oyster into a dish towel and have the curved blade like you mention. Seems to work well. I'm too chicken to go fast like the pros but I seem to keep up with regular guys.
