I cooked Turkish food for my sweetheart and I Sunday night. Freekeh pilaf with chicken, cauliflower with carrots and chickpeas (adapted from a neighborhood restaurant I discovered when I was in Istanbul years ago) and a salad of green pepper, cucumber, tomato and herbs that was supposed to have purslane but my neighborhood market was out.

G'day!
|
Had to drive south today to pick up a load of palms. Before getting back on I-95 I hit the Race Trac and after filling up the truck went inside to grab something to eat. Ended up with a pig in the blanket thingy and the dog had Jalapenas in it - holy cow was that good!
I'll be on the lookout for these when I pick up provisions this week...... ![]()

Eggplant bake.
A couple Italian sausages with fennel umami etc, spinach, red pepper, sitake dried mushrooms, three cheeses of Asiago(yum) sharp chedder hard parmasian, a half can or more marinara sauce on top for the final bake. There were two layers. There was either too much cheese or not enough, I can't decide. ![]() Lightly salt poke w/fork and press eggplant a couple hours to squeeze out juices. Bake 20 min, then egg wash and panko, then bake again another 20-30 min. ![]() The unripe eggplant did not want to cook through and needed covering and baking for a bit longer. This took many hours but was pretty good. ![]()

Sanding window frames builds quite an appetite. Gochujang marinated grilled steak tips with chow mein noodles, toasted sesame seeds and a raw egg yolk, a little sriracha.

I had a steak dinner at Pete Loogers tonight.
Seared some spring onions yanked out of the ground a few hours ago and sautéed chard. ![]()

Chinese food. Chili oil is very common. It’s on the table at dim sum houses.
Here is a less common oil. Ginger and green onion oil. It’s delicious. I served it with grill salmon collars last night. It’s great on lots of things. ![]()

Piece of chicken fried slow in peanut oil and chopped, black bean chili oil, dried mushrooms, garlic, celery stalk, dried black fungus, bamboo, add spouts and a dab of sweet oyster sauce at the end. Stir fry in that order.

I know I just ate pasta, but this was food experiments. I should have made a pot of rice. Char Sui. It worked. I need to pencil down the recipe..
