The roll cage is a six-point with NASCAR style door bars.

This will be my fourth install.
I wonder how long it will take to weld it in?

Porterfield R4E work great. Lasted quite a long time on the 325e i've worked on

You should look for an open 3.73 diff. That + the chip made the 325e really go faster. Also if you can score some 15 0r 16 wheels that improve on the bottlecaps width, itd be worth it. I think the narrow bottlecaps and tires of the 325e i was involved with was holding it back from handling even better. That said, it still handles quite good given that its been lowered alot, front susp messed with, and never been aligned......

I might have some Borbet Type C wheels, to fit an E30. 7x15, if my memory is any good.

This is not a LeMons car.

Yes, it would make a good one, but that's not what I'm building.
This a track day student/trainer car.

Someday, it may be a LeMons racer. I won't rule that out!

I took these off of a low-mileage 325iS I bought about 10 years ago. They hadn't been on the car long. I cleaned one up for a picture and the others should clean up as well. They are definitely nice enough for a track rat. Theoretically, they are still buried in my warehouse somewhere. They look like this:

Those are usually reserved for females. Sometimes cash is not even necessary...

Make me an offer I can't refuse.

I got quite a bit done today.

If I get up sorta early I may have the rear backstays and 'a' pillar down bars tacked in.
I should have the cage wrapped up on Friday.

No, it wont. lol...

I was building a 325e track car over the summer and went to the local BMW CCA club race at Road Atlanta to watch ( where i know the track and times well) and promptly came home, sold it and bought a ragged out e36 M3 that i am now almost done with..

Although i will say that the specE30 class was very competititve amongst themselves.

There's always a faster car...

This will be a great student platform for very little investment.

I haven't been able to spend as much time on the car as I would have liked to for a variety of mostly uninteresting reasons...

Anyway, I have a total of 23 hours in the build so far, including the compression test.

The roll cage is about 70% done, time wise.
Rear hoop, front down bars and windshield bar are fully installed.

I wanted to spend all day today finishing up the cage, but it's going to be stormy.

All the brake parts arrived yesterday in the mail from Porterfield.

Looks like the new seats won't be delivered for a week or so.
Nice thing is, there are no track days for the owner to go to right now.
No pressure for me to finish.

I estimated 40 hours in the build. So far I think I am on pace.

Here's a few pictures I just snapped between rain drops~

Looks good!

Are you bending the cage or was it pre-bent? How are you getting the welds around the entire circumfrence?

It's a pre-bent kit from a local race shop.
All the pieces are a little long for final fitment options.

I have left enough room to do 360 degree welds on all joints.

I hope the project turns out really nice and the car owner sends more clients my way.
I would love to build one race car per month.

Took it for a test drive and bedded the brakes.
Nice ride.

With the stiff lowering springs and front Bilsteins, It should be fantastic!

The owner picked it up this afternoon and is very pleased.
We hit the Vineyard Lap™ and he said he had more fun driving this than his $80k AMG he just got rid of.

That was after a 5 minute ride on the street. He loves the new brakes, too.

Thursday, I'll weld on the steering wheel hub and shoot some pictures of the new ride height.

I'm ready for the next one!!
