Yeah, rum is better than bandy IMO. Maybe Doug should try fruit brandy to alter the flavor. That might be a fun experiment.

I discovered just yesterday that Rum is not the only alcohol you can try in these cakes. I am now thinking I need to take the advice given and go with a flavored brandy. To my surprise there are Gin based cakes, Whisky based cakes, and all sorts of brandy cakes. A new one on me is Armagnac a brandy from Gascony FR. Here's another one that caught my eye, Morello Cherries, Cherry brandy, and chocolate (Arcadian Forest). Fortnum and Mason - Arcadian forest Cake, 830g
