That would assume 1) linear acceleration and 2) that velocity peaks at the muzzle and not before.

And more importantly 3) makes the table I posted above improbable.

Unless you put pressure ports along the barrel of the riffle and log the pressure along the length you'll have to make some assumptions, yes?

Yes. But my assumptions result only in "that's not possible". Yet we have claims that it is indeed possible.

I have no idea why or how. Whatever it is, it's more complex than just looking at the bullet weight and muzzle velocity. Or it's make believe.

If the only concern is for your wife, at the range, buy the rifle you want, and get her a recoil pad or 3.

Start with this:
PAST Hidden Comfort for Women Recoil Pad Shield Ambidextrous - MidwayUSA

If that isn't enough, you can put a good pad on the rifle, or add something like this:

I understand the difference between actual recoil and felt recoil. But there seems to be more going on that just perception.

Here is an excerpt from a Recoil Table seen here:

(weight in pounds, recoil energy in foot-punds)

The above table does not take felt recoil into account. Yet it claims less recoil for the 7mm-08. Maybe it has to do with the pressure of the cartridge, burn rate of the powder, or something completely different. It seems impossible, which is why I started this thread.

The only thing I can think of is that the 7mm-08 accelerates more slowly than the .270.

Engineers on this board may be able to educate us re: impulse-momentum. I changed my major from ME to CIS, so this gets beyond me!
The .270 loads shown in that table are a good deal more powerful than the 7mm-08 load shown. The easiest ones to compare are the respective 140 grain loads - add 140 fps to that 7mm-08 load, and recoil will will be identical (for all practical purposes) to the .270 load.
