I can imagine only one thing worse than a Jeep GC, and that would be a Jeep GC with an air suspension.

Because an Audi with air suspension is infinitely more reliable

Here's one that looks to have been well taken care of. The 3.0 is a nice engine, way different than your previous Subie.

Neither are, but the Jeep will be worse. They can't sort out simple problems, much less the more technical solutions. Their tech additions to the GC have always been problematic.

You know, you can buy a new car much cheaper if you purchase the individual pars from the manufactures then assemble it yourself....

The 2008 Legacy Outback H6 or 2008 Subaru B9 Tribeca both have 8.4 inches of ground clearance, and both have the H6

The 2009 Forester XT Limited has the WRX turbo four, but has 8.9 inches of ground clearance

Any of those address your concerns with your last Outback

The Jeep will be worse? And you know that how???

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is based on the Mercedes-Benz GL platform. It's a clean sheet compared to any other Grand Cherokee, or any other Jeep for that matter. Its available air suspension is also lifted directly from the GL. And that's been a decent platform. So I'm not sure where you're coming from.

The Allroads are a known entity. Enough said.

Yes, anything that jeep makes is going to be worse than just about anything made by anyone else. They have an absolutely terrible reputation for a reason. They have by far the worst track record for trying new technology in their cars as well.

I've never had an issue with my allroad (or my LR 3's) air suspension, however I know they will. But I don't really care if they do, the airbags will be replaced if needed. The average Jeep owner is going to have a heart attack over a $600 air bar replacement, if that fixes it.

edit (I'm actually buying a cayenne turbo that has an air suspension as well, I love em' I guess)

So if it is the same air suspension of a GL450, and the demographics of the buyers are different, then the Jeep will be crap because their average buyer will take offense to a $600 air bag where the same $600 repair to the Mercedes buyer is NBD?? I don't follow the logic. You do understand they are the exact same under the skin, right?

And FWIW the Grand Cherokee has 11.1 inches of ground clearance at full-lift

What's the GL, 70k? Yea, the GL buyer will be a different demographic. And it's "based on" from what I read, which leaves a lot of room for Jeep to mess it up, which if history holds true, they will.

I'll gladly let someone else test a new jeep model for me. I did it once, and I will forever regret it. Dreadful cars, really.

Are you projecting your one bad experience when giving advice to others?

Yes, the JGC platform is based on the GL just like the GL and the R are both based on the ML. The floopan shapes are different, as are the wheelbases. But the hard location points and most components are shared.

Anyway, I'd recommend RWebb rule out the more powerful Subies I listed before considering dropping huge coin on any new or newer SUV, the Jeep included.

I've had about a half dozen Cherokees and Grand Cherokees over the past 15 years. Zero problems. Have not had any V8 GCs, and have heard less than wonderful things about that engine. Newer 2005 GCs have a lot of Daimler in 'em.

I just bought a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2WD with leather - pretty inexpensive really going through carsdirect.com

After almost 3000 miles I am pretty impressed. I am getting around 19.3 mpg (mixed city and highway) it's very quiet, the bluetooth is excellent. Fit and finish is 100times better than anything else I've had experience with chrysler with...

With the savings I bought the extended warranty -
