Yep, I just learn what a roper heel is today by looking at the different boots.

The thing is when I'm in Texas it's always work work work. I'm in Houston and Beaumont next week, but will I have time to go get my feet fitted? Nope!

You can do it by mail but its better to do in person.

I have used "Mingo's Boots" in El Paso Texas for the last 30 years. Excellent quality and an absolute hand made boot. They fit them to YOUR foot and not the generic size. Price is about $75-$100 more but for me worth every penny. I bought a pair of beautiful ostrich in 1982 and still wearing them today, so well worth it for me.

BTW, I get mostly Roper heels these days as well as the more rounded toe. As well they will make any height tops and stitch them as you like them. If you wish they put your initials inset on the bottom of the tops so that when you cross your legs your initials show up. Makes for some nice comments when people see that these boots were made for you and not just off of the rack.

If I ever make it back to El Paso, I'll stop in at Mingo's.

Cavenders is having a free shipping and free return deal, so I just went ahead and bought a pair of the Ariat Ramblers for $129.99. Figure if they don't fit my feet well, I'll just return them or swap them for a pair of a diff. size. This is mostly how I shop nowadays. I don't have time to go hunting for stuff. And when the online prices are cheaper than I can buy in person (and pay taxes on)...hard to justify me putting up with rude people at the stores.

I love my Ariat's. That being said, I'm pretty sure the model you posted has a soft top. My brother has a pair of those .

Get the boots 1/2 size too small. The leather will stretch out.

Boots, and all footwear, should be as light as possible. One workplace said I had to wear steelcaped boots, so some days I wore them and some days I didn't. The days I did I was knackered at the end of the day due to having (cumulatively) lifted hundreds of kilos throughout the day. It's bad enough walking miles through the bush without lifting extra kilos as well. If I want extra kg's I'll carry the .357.

I agree Bill. I really hate wearing steel toe boots, esp. the big clunky heavy boots. But I like the roughedness of work boots when I work in the field. I haven't found the ideal boots yet, the kind that feel like running shoes under my feet and don't weight 5 lbs each while giving me the mobility to climb stairs and platforms, crawl under pipe, walk in gravel for 8 hrs and keep my feet warm and dry.

I almost need shoes/boots for every environment

On topic: the Ariat dealer in town had a very small selection and no square toe boots. The 9.5 round toe boots in the store fit me well. I hope the 9D square toes that are on the way fit.

You better give me a call and we can go shoe shopping together. Maybe invite vash along.
