I vote for a simple french press. If you get quality coffee grounds they put out sublime coffee. If you have the $$ then go with what Tabs uses.

Keurig - BLAH!!! Those K-cup deals look appealing but (IMO) the coffee is weak and has a strange after taste if you try to bump the strength. They are no better than what you can get at 7/11. They are convenient though and guess for the mass market convenience sells.

You said you're wife loves coffee...so maybe a little inconvenience (dealing with coffee grounds) is worth it to her. Honestly, try a french press.

Oui... Nothing is free in this world, convenience vs quality. One has to choose what they want to achieve.

This is exactly how I got into the SuperAutomatics. I brought in a semi-auto for a bunch of Romanians, so they would have some decent coffee. We got 10 people to put up $60 and we bought the super. When I tested it at home, I said I had to get one!

My dad loved my machine, so we bought him one when he moved to Houston.

On my machine, since Spring of 2007, we've 10364 shots/cups of coffee without any problems (knocking on wood).

Not counting coffee, we're down to under 6 cents per cup. The coffee we use is $4.50 for 13oz. I bet we get 25-30 cups per bag. Call it 15 cents per cup for the coffee itself.

Checking Amazon, the K-cups run at least 50 cents each. The machine runs $150. On the Super Automatic, $599 for the machine, and $.15 per coffee. Break even on the SuperAutomatic is 1283 cups/shots vs the Kcup machines.

ESE pods are a little cheaper, but the coffee isn't as good.

French press. Ask people in the coffee business how they drink their coffee.

+1.

When I have the time on the weekends, I set the burr grinder to the coarser setting and use the French Press. It's the most simple and cost effective way to make a fantastic cup of coffee.

or you could just stick with the maker you have and only brew enough for the amount she drinks. one scoop per 2 6oz cups is the norm. most pots have cup markers on them too so you know how much water to add.
load it up before you go to bed hit the power button on the way to the shower.

We've had one of these for 3+ years, about 5K coffees and never misses a beat. Makes great coffee, and is truely one touch for cappuccinos and lattes. Can't imagine not having one in the house. They aren't cheap but I no longer have to pay the barista for that perfect cup. Can take whole bean or pre ground (rarely use that feature).
