Not really, Baz, those guys know what they are doing and you have a lot of control over your the rig with the help of the wind. Is is rather easy to control your entry and exit from the waves. After all, it is a wind-powered surf board! Been there, done that, though not in those waves.

Yeah - I meant "INSANE" in a good way....the wave - the rider - the board - the photo - everything!

I did some windsurfing myself during a stint on the Gulf Coast of Florida (Ft. Myers area) - we had some really nice windy days but of course no waves to match but I guess that was the point - wind-powered as you say.

Paul McCartney recruited award-winning surf filmmaker Jack McCoy to create a music video for his previously unreleased track "Blue Sway." Written nearly 20 years ago, McCartney's never-before released song, "Blue Sway," is available for the first time on the bonus audio disc of the special edition of McCartney II. The music video created by McCoy is also featured on the bonus DVD included in the set. McCartney II will be released on June 14th by MPL and Concord Music Group.

Jack McCoy has been capturing the surfing vision in a truly unique way. Using a high powered underwater jet ski, the filmmaker found that he was able to travel behind a wave, creating underwater images that have never been seen before.

Over the past couple of years, McCoy set out to capture footage for his surf film, A Deeper Shade of Blue. During the editing process, McCoy put one of his surfing sequences to a song off McCartney's The Fireman album. A mutual friend, Chris Thomas, saw the footage while visiting McCoy in Australia, and when he returned to the UK he gave McCartney a copy of the sequence.

"Paul was pretty stoked with what I'd created. He immediately thought my images might be suitable to go with his unreleased song "Blue Sway." said McCoy.

McCoy spent the next six weeks creating the music video, while also working full days on making A Deeper Shade of Blue. McCoy compiled and edited footage that he filmed off Tahiti's Teahupoo reef to create what became the "Blue Sway" video.

"When I saw Jack McCoy's underwater surfing footage put to the soundtrack of "Blue Sway" I was blown away," said McCartney.

"Blue Sway" won 'Best Music Video' at NYC BE FILM Short Festival this past May, and the video will be featured as part of Surfrider Foundation's summer PSA campaign. Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world's oceans, waves and beaches.

Bazza, yet another outstanding video offering, thanks bro.
the first couple of upside down shots were a little disorienting for me, but beautiful
One of the big adjustments to surfing in Tahiti is the water clarity, as you start to take the drop and look down it seems that the reef is dry cause you see right thru the water. a bit of a shocker at first. We've got some clean water here in Hawaii, but it is a whole nuther thing in Tahiti.

As to wind surfing big waves, its all real easy til it isn't. I have had long sessions in double mast high waves all most dry headed. But then it can easily go from stoking good fun to piled up well offshore in the impact zone with a bunch of broken gear, lots of current trying to take where you don't want to go. And only half a board to paddle in on or just swimming. The classic hero to zero situation that takes just a moment to happen. Its all good tho, once you make it back to the beach. BTDT.

Cheers Richard

Oh Baz, I love my thread! Such good stoke going on here. Love that Cowabunga pic! I think I need to get a yellow bikini like that. Haven't been able to get on my board. I am going to be in San Diego for a week next month for work so maybe I will be able to get out in the water. Not with my board but maybe a rental. Get it in when you can, right?

And Tahiti sounds absolutely awesome, Richard. Hmmmm... Maybe that should be my next trip. Always wanted to go. Wanna meet me there? Lol!

If you look closely, you'll see about 8 of them in the line up .. but the real crowd is found just to the left of the photo, at Winkipop.

8 a crowd? try some of the better spots I surf when there is a nice swell. 8 would be the number of guys paddling for every wave.
