Thanks, Baz for all the videos... loved the last one. Old school.

I am thinking of taking Ikaika for his virgin ride in San Diego next month. Need to get him ready. I am buying a fin for him... any advice? I want to get just a single fin. What is the difference between sizes? ie: 7" vs. 9"?

Is wax just wax or does type matter? Remember I am a rookie at all of this! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. So stoked to get him in the water. Hopefully we fall in love with each other on our first date...

Go Tweez! The local surf shop will help you choose a fin. Same with wax. Waxes vary depending on temp. ie.. soft wax for cold water and hard wax when its warmer (melting point).
Have fun

Tweez.....please remember that you are a gremmie, not a rookie! There is a distinction.

A longer fin, in my opinion, would suit you better for now because it will help stabilize your board when you make turns. A stable board = a stable rider.

I use Sex Wax myself but there are other brands out there that could also be as good that I haven't tried. So for now my vote is for Sex Wax. As mph911 said....there are specific formulations for different temps of water...softer for cold water and harder for warm water. Just stop at a surf shop if necessary and they will know which one is best for where you are surfing. As a snowboarder you may have used Sex Wax already. Here's a link with more info: Zog's Sex Wax

Ikaika is a lucky dude to have such a dedicated soul surfer as his rider!

Cowabunga and keep us posted!

We've been using sticky bumps...if Ikaika is clean, start w/ a bar of base then cool water for next month. Let me know if you want company in the water. Heading 8 west to O.B.? Jim

More stoke for you Tweez......an excellent video of legendary Mr. Bob McTavish, an Australian who pioneered a lot of the hot dog riding style of surfing in the long board era. Bob was and still is a significant innovator of surfboard design, to say the least.

MY bucket list includes owning a McTavish shooter....

Thanks, Baz for the video... he makes it look so easy. I liked hearing him talk about the board and all the parts too. Really interesting.

Watch this video... so inspiring! I don't remember if I told you guys but I learned how to surf when I was legally blind in one eye. I had always wanted to learn how to surf and when I lost eyesight in one eye, I thought I better get to it before I lost sight in the other. Luckily, after being legally blind for a year and a half, a procedure worked and I can see better now. But if I ever lost my sight again, this kid inspires me that I could still do it! Amazing! Love stories like this...

Tweez......thanks for this video and I agree - amazingly inspirational! No I didn't know about your eyesight situation but good for you to power through and overcome that issue! We all take what we have for granted. One of the biggest challenges every day is to stop and be thankful for what we have....for it may be gone tomorrow....

Like Zeke said.

Urban Dictionary: Gremmie

"a young or inexperienced surfer, especially one whose behavior is objectionable."

I hate it when you open a thread page and some music starts automatically.

You get a "What's Wrong With You?" WWWY

Matt! Gorgeous picture of Bells Beach! I want to go to Australia so bad. Was looking at vacation packages last week even... dreaming.

Baz, I would say I am inexperienced for sure and yes, sometimes my behavior is objectionable, but young... not so much. But I will take the new nickname of Gremmie!

Haven't taken Ikaika out for a ride yet. Was gonna go to San Diego but trip nanny fell through so hung out with my boys in Laguna instead. Will have to ride those waves soon!

Hang ten, guys! Love, The Gremmie.

Sad news from down under.....legend Michael Peterson has passed away.

He left his mark - I reckon that's enough sometimes.

Rest In Peace MP.

If you ever venture this way I'll take you surfing. I have plenty of boards you can use
