Go Cart Project
Picked this up yesterday; needs a new battery and a few things to get it going. The PO said it frequntly jumps out of gear...hopefully that will be a cheap and somewhat easy fix this winter. It's an older model so I'm sure transaxle parts will be difficult to find. It also has a cargo rack that goes just above the engine. YeeHaw!

Sorry, but that's not a "go kart." Or kart as it has become. We call those buggies.
Just sayin' from an old karter who started in the '50's with the original go karts. I've never been in a buggy, but I feel the high center will make it pretty tippy. Wear your helmet. |

I wouldn't call that a kart either. But it does look like you could do some fun off roading. With the high clearance , suspension, fat knobby tires, lighting should be a blast on the right trail or jeep roads. What is the power, does it have a trans?
Good find, have fun, Let us know how she goes. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 10-24-2011 at 07:52 AM.. |

+1 to the above - looks more of a modified quad of some sort... Buggy is probably a better descriptor.
Does look mighty fun though!

Cart or buggy, should be loads of family fun. It's an old machine billed as a fun/work vehicle complete with trailer hitch. It has a 12 hp engine with a one foward gear and a reverse.

Looks fun!
Be careful. Don't let the roll cage give you a false sense of security. I used to have a couple of these: ![]() This was designed for some pretty rough use, but could still hurt you easily. One of the often overlooked injuries is a broken arm during a roll over. You can protect yourself with wrist cuffs like the ones below hanging from the steering yoke: ![]() I had a friend stuff his into a creek bed (he missjudged the height of the bank). The front brush guard stuck and brought him to a dead stop instantly. Really rang his bell. No lasting injuries, but he was very sore for a couple of weeks.

![]() This is a great photo of the kart I had in 1962, not my photo unfortunately. An Ala Kart Slingshot, with dual Macs. As sweet a ride as a 14 year old could ever hope for, and paid cash with savings from my paper route money. You could light up the rears easy, that thing was *****in as they used to say. After a few years of competition, we ended up burning the pistons with mis-adjusted carbs and pure nitro. That was the end of that ($!). Time to move on anyway.. |

be careful with that in the desert,
the seating position is such that washouts and ditches become invisible till your upon them, then wham an endo will usually result The quad racers are a bit better than these as they have better brakes and higher seating positions
