Mom's Coffee Cup
You may remember my Mom passed away in late May. I have a few kitchen items from her place that fit really well in mine and I use them regularly.
Especially, this cup... ![]() Back in 1993, my then fiance and I decided to move near her Dad in Mesa, Az. We went there for a week in March '93 to scout for an apartment. I gave Mom (in Tennessee) this mug as a gift from that trip. She used it non-stop since then and called it "your coffee cup". We would speak on the phone very often and sometimes she would tell me she was using "your coffee cup" as it made her feel closer to me and my family. God, I miss her.

I miss my mom as well, and it is funny the things that mean the most to you, the simple things like a coffee cup...

It's funny how the little things really connect us to our parents. I've got a few things from my Dad, but oddly enough, the favorite two are a pair of red suspenders he always wore and the original steering wheel from his freightliner.
But I will not be wearing the suspenders to any PCA get-togethers. ![]() angela

Mine was a bench that was at the front door. My Dad hated the thing because it just hit the door when you opened it. One of those funny things in life. Well after Mom unexpectedly passed Dad had me haul it down to my house to give to my Sister. I stored it in my little entry way for my Sis to pick up. Well, she told me, through tears, to leave it in my entry because it seemed to finally have a home of its own. Dad couldn't even say a word without fogging up when he visited.
I use it every day, and now my Mom, in some funny little way, gets to greet everyone who comes and goes through my doorway.

Nice that it's not just a reminder of her, but that you had a real connection to the cup. I'm guessing she was pretty special.

My favorite is a ceramic rooster my mom made around '54. It's over a foot tall & one of my favorites. Unfortunately my wife knocked it over on the kitchen island and broke the top third off. The fortunate thing is it was a fairly clean break and I have it off to a restorer right now to get it fixed for $75. It's just an old piece of ceramic, but it's definitely worth more than $75 to me.
