Cursed boat

So, a few months ago I posted the story about the maiden voyage of our new 40 foot boat.

3 days, 39 miles....

Anyway, after 3 months of waiting for repairs, we finally got our boat delivered yesterday.

So, at 10a we get a phone call from the trucking company. They are at the marina, but they "scraped" the arch on a bridge.

We hired a reputable transport company, checked insurance and references, and even hired a pilot car. (The little car that checks the road for low bridges and narrow roads).

We get to the marina and this is what we see:

Lots more to the story, which I will try and post later. They also dragged the keel.

The initial insurance estimates are 20-30k (depending on how much the domes, statellite, etc are it could go higher).

We bought the boat in August and made one trip during which the boat was grounded.

This was our second time on the boat. Or, it would have been.

BTW, why did they bother splashing the boat? Why didn't they leave it dry? Where are you going to go with it in its current condition? Was the marina just looking for money?

Seriously........I thought I am the only one who has s**t like this happen to them. UFB. If it were me I would have it sent back to the manufacturer for repairs with the understanding that whatever the bill is the transport company is responsible. I would not use them again.

Wow. Bad luck strikes again. Hopefully the transport company has the insurance to make things right.

Exactly. Don't pay to have it dry'ed.

Nice boat, BTW. Have the hull surveyed.

I assume they give you a rental while it's in for repair???

Seriously... Does the insurance estimate include loss of use and diminished value?

If thats a "scrape" i'd hate to see their definition of serious damage.

We want to rename it to the onion.....every time we look at it, we want to cry.

So, we had it towed (via SeaTow) to a boat repair yard about 100yards from the marina that we will use.

The boat will be dry hauled b/c we are going to have the keel repaired from where they dragged it. The damage is actually worse than what you can see. There are wires that are ripped out from the console gauges, the 50AMP wire doesn't work, the 30Amp does. We think something got pulled that pulled wires down below.

We will find out more after the insurance people look at it.

Repair, sell and start over again!

Either that or invite Tim Tebow to sail with you.

That sucks.

The wires for the satellite and radar were probably tied to the rest of the loom below, and possibly into the breaker panel. Insist on a thourough electronics and control going-over. That F/G repair will always stick out at you like a sore thumb.

Love boats and have had a few.
What kind of a boat hauling company using a pilot car makes that kind of mistake?
just looking at it ,I'm angry for you.
I would be fuming. Then I would lawyer up and have it delt with properly.

That's awful. Don't know what the boat is worth, but I'd be hoping it was totalled. In any event, maybe there's a broker over near the yard that can get a good price for you and find you something nicer (at least w/o the drama).

Sell that boat, buy a different boat if you want to.

The psychology of having a different boat in your life will be worth it even if it costs a little more.

Oh man, I am sorry this happened to your boat. You could write a book about the "million dollar yacht" to offset the grief.
(edit) I agree with Gogar.

Boat owners say, "Boats are a hole in the water that you throw money into".
Boaters do not say such things....

I'm a boater of a few boats. I suggest you get that boat totaled if possible and start fresh. If not, ensure the transport company pays for a complete undetectable rebuild and have that rebuild documented in-case you want to sell the boat in the future.

Very sorry and angry on your behalf...damned transport company!
