Knowing Don, I tell you that was a very high quality build, I have seen many of his cars at the track and not only do they look good, but run great as well.. A buddy was real close to buying it when it was 1st offered for sale and it really is a sweet car. I would love to have it, I would drive it daily, but would change the mirrors & seats, I told Don back then that they just don't fit the look..

The audience at most BJ auctions usually appreciates domestic cars. it's a pretty select gathering of buyers (American iron, tractors and kit cars).

As I recall, the referenced build in the thread was done very well. I also think folks on this forum might be divided between e.g. this car and the Singer. I recall some would sacrifice their left nut for a Singer - a beautiful car for sure, but at a lofty price only a few would consider.

I don't think anyone expected 250K out of a clone. But that's a nice price for a 964 with some fiberglass, paint and wheels. I'm not ignoring the turbo, but a NA car might have brought similar money.

Whatever interior it had, interiors are cheap.

Exactly...a nice original and nicely modded go for about the same. Mod if you wish, but realize it's only for your own pleasure. A 911T is still a 911T, even if you put a 911S emblem on the back.

'nuff said.

Real point I'm trying to make is regarding mods. Mods limit the number of buyers because the mods need to reflect the tastes of the one buying. If not, he'll keep looking.

This hold true for all makes, not just P cars. There are always exceptions to the rule, as evidenced by that Mustang, but they are rare.

That car is a better deal than the fake 1968 Shelby Mustang for $240k last week!

Your opinion. Not the opinion of the guy who paid for the "fake" Mustang or he wouldn't have paid it.

The opinion of the guy who bought the Mustang has nothing to do with its value, unless he could turn around and sell it for the same. That's how value works.

Maybe he didn't buy it to flip? Value is determind between seller & buyer. That Mustang may not be worth the price paid to you & I...but it was worth it to him.

Sellers sell for their own reason as well...and the reason isn't always about the money.

It doesn't matter whether he "bought it to flip", that's completely irrelevant. What something is worth is what more than one, uninformed buyer will pay for it.

If I sell a used car with a street value of $10k to some poor fool for $20k, that doesn't magically make it worth $20k. What part of this confuses you?

Had to be more than one potentail buyer to get the bid that high, eh? Guess that's not relevant in this case?

Like I said, buying and selling isn't always completely about the money for one or both parties.

You have a point there. Maybe that car was worth what it sold for in that case. It just drives me batty when people think that something is worth different from what you can sell it for. Sure, people get screwed or get a smoking deal sometimes but you have to remove that from actual value considerations.
