Easy come, easy go.
On2Wheels, some people have to spend. They get a few dollars and then treat themselves to a night out at the burger joint. It's that entitlement, I worked for it now I'm going to spend it. Unfortunately, if you're living hand to mouth, you will stay broke that way. |

Compromise, life's all about compromise
When you really think about it, anyone on this board has nothing to complain about. Sure, I sail a 1980 C&C 36' boat and sure it would be nice to have a 1995 Malo 38' or a new one but do I really need it, will that 200K more boat be better for me, will it give me better performance, ahhhh, ya sure. No thank you, my boat is paid for and it sails mighty fine, it lacks nothing other than more time on it. Enjoy what you have....Bob Marley's famous words, "Don't worry, be happy".

And some might say if that were the only choice, they'll leave the game. I did. Again, with apologies to Miata owners because I know they are worthy cars in their class. |

You can have all the money you want but it's no effin good if your ill. Look at the people who work thier asses off and scrimp and save for their retirement only to die from stress related heart failure or stroke etc. I visit lots of different people from very different econmic scales and I have found that those with the least are generally the happiest. Those who earn the big bucks are so uptight it's not funny. It's true, some of the best things in life are free.

She had all that life could offer...FAME, MONEY ADULATION and RESPECT OF HER PEERS ON A PROFESSIONAL BASIS.... She was so happy that she wound up drowning in a Bathtub high on Booze and prescription pain killers.... Another two words.....Michael Jackson....Ditto for Whitney.... He was so happy that he wound up dieing of an intravenous over dose of pain killers... The moral of this is that MONEY CAN NOT BUY YOU PEACE OF MIND...

Unfortunately Hugh and for the rest of you savers out there in cyber land the JOKE maybe on yourselves....Your government has been like the Grasshopper in Aesops Fables. It has been squandering your wealth for the past 40 plus years...which unfortunately might just wipe everything you worked for out. The good ole USA is headed right on down the same path that Greece has gone down. But do not feel so all alone in being played for a fool....the whole wide world is going to be suciked right on down that rat hole with the good ole USA...I can give you 100,000,000,000,000 reason why and each one of them is printed with the face of the guy who could nottell a lie when he chopped down the cherry tree...

Yep Tabs, I think you may well be right. The trend now is "he has so much, and I have so little, it's not fair !! ". Let's disregard who was the Ant and who was the grasshopper.

Money can only fix the problems that a lack of money causes... Poor health, addictions, family issues, etc... cannot be helped with $...

That's true for those who don't know what money is really for.
To those who think money's only purpose is to spend, to trade for other things. THAT is the key. So many people have no clue what money is really for. They are under the ignorant notion that money must be spent to have value. That it's only use is to buy things. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, money will buy you food and clothing and other necessities, but is should never be squandered on possessions. Money's real purpose and value is to provide freedom, security, and power. Money should be collected, saved, hoarded, gathered, whatever you want to call it. If you save money you can use it to obtain more money. If done correctly you will eventually get to a point where the money works for you so you don't have to. When you get to the point where your money makes you money, managing that money becomes a game, a hobby, something that is enjoyable. You'll get to the point where you are a slave to no one or no thing, you are independent and can do what ever you want. You can use the money to change things you don't like. You can control your destiny and surroundings. You can help others and change lives. In other words, you can buy happiness without spending anything on it. But then you get people like the knock-down drunk drug addict who just died, I call it the Elvis syndrome. They don't have a clue what money can do so they just try to spend it to get things. Eventually they get everything they want and find that it isn't enough. They have countless millions but get more and more unhappy every day. They squander them one, thinking it's what is making them unhappy. But like most things in life, they should be looking inward instead of making excuses and placing blame elsewhere. Their sorrow is compounded by their financial ignorance and it destroys them. What do you give the man who has everything? A eulogy. Too many people work for money just to get stuff and realize the stuff wasn't worth it. They look to possessions to bring them happiness and they are always disappointed. Or even worse, they become indentured servants because they BORROW money to spend on crap. That's the worst thing they could do, because not only are they disappointed that all the toys still leave them empty and unsatisfied, they've sold their soul for them. They are now not only unhappy, they are slaves to the payments. Their misuse of money has not given them freedom. It has done just the opposite. Spending money makes you unhappy. Saving money brings happiness. Last edited by sammyg2; 02-18-2012 at 10:16 AM.. |

Apparently god has spoken above.
Moneys not everything. But my buddies and I have a lot more fun living it up on the town and going on sweet vacations than we do sitting around our parents' basements. As always, balance is the key to life. |

I think you have to strike a balance. You need at least SOME money to make sure you have a decent place to live, decent transport, and enough to eat. Working can provide a sense of accomplishment or fulfillment. Also, the more free time I have, the more things I might want to do which is going to cost money, one way or the other. I'm willing to work for money to maintain a standard of living and do some things. What I don't understand are the folks that work so much that they don't have time for anything else. I need to have a balance between work and my time.

Granted, it's still work, I certainly wouldn't show up if I wasn't getting paid, but it's definitely got it's points. I've known folks that do a job because it gets them a paycheck, but they HATE the work. I'm glad I'm not one of them.
