I had a Barium Enema, same prep, I am laying on the table, a black nurse walks in and I say are you the nurse and she says "I ain't your aunt Jemina." she sticks a hose up you butt with a little balloon which they expand to keep it in and start to fill you up with a chalk like substance, take a xray, nurse comes back in and says we can't do it your still full of shyte, I says, "Whats new."
Come back again several days later after having reprepped, this time it all goes well, then you have to get up and make a dash for the toilette because you are all filled up and it WANTS to come out...and it does in a great big whoosh....and then you smile with relief.

Hi
|
I had the endo- and colonoscopy on the same visit. The prep is the worst part. The procedure was easy. When I woke up I was sooo relaxed I wanted to sleep for a while longer but the nurse said "nope, you're going home". After a nice pancake breakfast I went home and slept for another 3 hours.

I got mine done already. As others have said "The prep is the worst." I was told I am good to go for another 10 years before I need another.

That reminds me, I still have to have the follow up one, since they didn't like the path report from the one I had in Jan.

Procedure complete! Doc found one polyp which he believes is benign but will know for sure next week.
The bowel prep was indeed the worst part. The last half gallon of the laxative was hard to keep down. I was afraid it would exit from top and bottom at the same time! The nap was excellent though. |

I just had my first a couple weeks ago. Non-event. Clean as a whistle...5-10 years check again, they said. But man, I can't get over that Propofol. I made it a point to try reading a poster on the wall while they were pumping in the Propofol. I was focusing and got about halfway through it, and then lights out. And when I say "lights out", it is like that portion of your life never occurred! Holy anesthesia!! So what is Pavulon? I recall you mentioning that is was a med that you use? And I think you are Anesthesiologist? But man...that Propofol is some kind of serious cocktail! Surely the guys here who say they were awake and remember part of it weren't getting Propofol! I wasn't given a choice...he just said, "here comes the good stuff"!! And man, that was a big syringe full of milk!! JA

I just had my first, they removed a benign polyp..
The prep wasn't as bad as the horror stories I had heard. I was proscribed Prepopik for the cleanse, Its a powder you mix with water, the chug it down, and drink a few extra cup of water... to prevent dehydration... from the "evacuations" You take this prep twice, last dose 6 hours before the procedure? I saved the mixing glass that came with the kit to serve beer tocertain of my friends when they are over.... ![]() It took over a week for me to return to my normal bowel movement activity though... The worst part for my was being hungry..... I do not do well on an empty stomach.... but that is a serious first world problem

Congrats on the clean bill of health and thanks for the kind words. As is the case for most of us, reading this board generally makes my day better.
I'm just a regular old CRNA. Compared to pentathol, Propofol (milk of amnesia) was a step in the right direction. Some people will remember a part of a sedation with or without propofol and extrapolate to "I remember it all." It's frustrating to hear but not worth a long discussion/argument. It's tough to convey how often medical folks are forced to choose between being right and being kind. ![]() Pavulon is another old medication but it blocks neuro-transmission to skeletal muscle. I used a lot of it and liked how it worked so I adopted it. It's not overly imaginative but that's ok. Take care JA! Quote:

Is there a sexual reason for using it? I dont believe it was only to help him 'sleep'. When I had my colonoscopy, were the nurses seeing me in an excited state? I am due for another one, so this tread has reminded me to make an appointment. Thanks guys |

Just had mine in June. Had three, pre-cancerous polyps removed, one of which was 1 cm.
This time was so much easier than the first time because of a different prep. It was a fraction of the volume of the last time I had this done. Results were the same, but sure was easier going down.

Patients who received propofol will sometimes report vivid sexual dreams. However, I cannot recall anesthetized people becoming aroused with propofol alone (please don't ask for more info than that).
MJ was using propofol for insomnia/routine sleep. Obviously it was a bad idea. For understandable reasons, Propofol abuse has also become a significant problem in anesthesia circles. Substance abuse in the general population is not uncommon and anesthesia personnel have all the access in the world. Quote:

Propofol. Remember, you want the thriller dose, not the killer dose.
