Absolutely........................................ ............................until you talk to those strangers sincerely and one-on- one.
I often spark up a convo. anywhere and everywhere. People first have their guards way up until you introduce yourself to them and something such as being in line at the grocery store and what the heck is taking so long.

Even being a stranger and YOU open up- they eventually will. I do this with my Son to teach him. After that , they seem to want to talk as much as I do.

It's all about a big guard and perhaps fear.

I was considering getting 'No soliciting' signs.

But just 2 weeks a ago, a kid showed up raising money for his HS baseball team. 100% legit, nice kid, selling coupon books to benefit the team. Well I want to open the door for that kid. I want to reward that kids initiative. Sadly, it seems like I have to meet 10 slimeballs for every nice kid that comes to the door.

Wow I actually have to agree with dipso here... I do think today's society is pretty mean, petty, materialistic, self-centered and cruel but angrier? Nah. Past generations seem to have cornered the market on that one with gruesome killings and wars over insanely petty things all the time - real wars with real casualties, not the "at-a-distance" video game wars we have today with minimal casualties. I'm talking about people's only sons coming home in very small pieces if at all, or with horrible injuries. Lots of them. En masse. Over stupid things like religion or money or territory. Past generations condoned such things as public executions by hanging, burning, etc. torture was commonplace. Those are outlets of anger. Today's society is definitely rude and insensitive, but perhaps the upside of that is we don't feel the need to have a good lynching as an outlet for our repression every other week such as used to be the case...

Damn I actually agree with Dipso also. I think society in general has just become more pussified. People get butt hurt too easily.

I must add that some of the angriest people I have met are some old men but mind u I am in my 60's now and trying to resist the urge to be like them. I used to get bullied by the occasional old employer when I was around 19 but now if I meet that kind of old guy taking rounds out of a young person I let them have it big time. I don't pretend to be a Christian and will likely go to h--l anyway. I come across quite a few angry women nowadays. Not sure how to handle them. I usually just walk away unless they berate my wife or scratch my Porsche Is'nt life fun! I can see it is going to be a good day. I am going to stay calm and drive the cr-p out of my P car when I pick it up from the indy shop.Cheers

I'm pretty much happy with life in general. Ive been dealt a couple of bad blows along the way. But those are things i had no control over, I put it in the past and moved on. I enjoy life as best I can.

I'm probably one of the friendliest outgoing people you will ever meet. I can get along with just about anyone. But I have little to zero tolerance for people that are self-centered, selfish, materialistic, narcissistic, or self entitled.

I was talking to a vegetarian last week about this. I told them that after two years of not eating meat, when returning to meat eating I could feel an aggressiveness return, and I would get much angrier too.

If we could keep the PARF stuff out of the regular OT forum, that would be swell.

I have a theory... People are eating a lot more sugar/carbo hydrates today and higher blood sugar levels can make people more likely to become aggressive or angered if something upsets them.

Alec Baldwin recently claimed he was alergic to sugar on the Letterman show so he had cut that and a lot of carbos from his diet.
Have you heard any of his angry rants to his daughter or ex wife?

At this point in time, the world is no more or less angry than it already was.
The only difference is that with our access to almost immediate information and communication, it is now more visible if you will. Before it was always there but less visible or less timely.

I say at this point in time, because the puppet masters have caught onto sheeple's thirst for almost immediate information and communication. They will no doubt begin harnessing it to move the sheeple in the direction they desire (I would guess that this is already beginning to happen).

Yes, this is the future. With people signing up to FB in droves and practically tripping over each other to buy the latest smart phones, this new world order will be upon us sooner than we might think. The NSA is already building a huge complex in the Utah desert that will intercept and store EVERY phone call, e-mail, text, tweet, etc. made to or from the US. This "I gotta be in touch 24/7 with everybody and everything" mentality is just too good to be true for those who hold positions of power in this world.

I doubt the world is angrier, overall, although it is in some ways. When I was young, we had the cold war (Duck and Cover™) and the Cuban missile crisis. We had JFK's, RFK's, and MLK's assasinations. We had race riots in most major metropolitan areas. We had civil rights protests, Vietnam war protests, women's lib protests. All kinds of sheet going on. Nowadays, we have amped up political hate-speech. If you tune out these a-holes, life is pretty OK.

Very well put.

I find the world to be a much nicer place all in all.

Now we just argue.

Maybe if you think things are tougher, you should read about some of the earlier ways of dissolving disputes. Duels, jousting, beheadings, guillotines, crucification, drowning, hangings, burying alive, burning, etc.
You left out stoning!

I hate to say it but I agree with dipso... the big difference is now we have bloodthirsty media scrambling for ratings that rush to publish every despicable deed.

You guys think things are bad today?

You need to study history... humankind has done some pretty horrible things to each other over the years. A quick look at the middle ages for instance... entire villages killed, people thrown in jail and tortured just because some royal didn't like them, or disagreed with something they said.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I agree. It's meaner, rather than angrier.
A whole talk radio industry has sprung up whose programing is meanness toward and vilification of an entire segment of our society. There are a couple of local radio stations whose programming is 24 hours of targeting people, building straw men, and tearing them down. They are fairly popular, and that kind of constant meanness and negativity has to have an effect on people.
