Headhunter recommendations San Fransisco
Pelican Brain Trust knowledge needed.
My wife is having a hard time finding resources that yield many job prospects that suit her credentials in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. She has a PHD in literature from UCSC (2011 grad) and professional experience in grants, speech writing, and policy etc. She has applied to a number of positions within the college level educational field where her heart lies but competition is fierce and in many cases she was one of hundreds to apply to a single position. She wants to branch out and look into the corporate / government sector but we feel she needs someone on her team that knows her skill set and knows where she would be a good fit. Thus bringing her to a point where a headhunter might be that team member to broaden her opportunities. Other than some in depth on line research neither of us has any experience whatsoever with approaching the job market through this channel. Can anyone with knowledge on this offer any recommendations or advice on getting involved with a headhunter that knows the Bay Area job market intimately. We are willing to relocate if the right opportunity leads us to a new city/state. Thanks in advance to the Pelican brain trust- the one and only place one can get good answers to things utterly unknown to the individual asking the question. |

So many posts even lately about the job market. This once great nation is forever in the toilet.
I may have to move to Texas. What country is that in again? |

Not forever, just until we get the boneheads out of office and some grownups who know something about wealth/opportunity creation back in. We need to get rid of the entitlement mentality and political correctness plague that has hobbled us, then we can start the slow climb back to prosperity.

I don't know anything about the headhunting business. In this economy, I think more and more people are needing the help of a good headhunter. Because her PhD is in literature, my first thought was of James Kilpatrick, the late great author ("The Writer's Art"), nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, and grammarian. He had quite a following, and he is dearly missed. With your wife's unique background, she could start a similar column or blog, and transition that into something that is uniquely hers. We need people to take a stand for the beauty and evolution of the English language. _ |

We had a similar thread here recently that you should read. I have a pretty long post on it about recruiters and how the generally work. Unfortunately they do not work for job seekers. There may be some job consulting and resume help that is useful, but it isn't what you have in mind.
