He was given time off for what he said during the Hershey presentation. That level of instability and poor judgment was enough. If Hershey had been legitimately interested in hiring them to advertise, it was over after that. As far as the two Hershey guys could tell after that little rambling confession, Don is certifiable and if they told other agencies what he said, it could really hurt.

I'm so glad Pete didn't destroy that Z-28 or run over somebody, but that scene was emblematic of his level of failure and frustration. The look on his face after he knocked down that signage said it all, and the way those GM guys just turned and walked away was very telling.

Pete survived the episode and another season, but he wasn't alone in "extreme frustration hell." It seemed like EVERYONE was having somewhat of a life meltdown with major personal and professional life detours forced upon them. What an episode.

here's where this is going - we are watching the death of DD, and the reclaiming of Dick Whitman. It's all there - the comments from Sally about how she doesn't know who he is, the others who have made the same comments over time, and lots of other little things. He is like a caterpillar getting ready to cacoon. He can no longer live the lie, and he wants out. His reminiscings are very telling too. I think at the center, he is a moral character, and that is what is emerging, and as such, he can no longer pretend to be someone else. And to top it off, the new DD is Bob. Watch his details closely, except he is a bad guy. He is the anti-DD.

I didn't watch the show last night. I'm watching the recording right now and I'm half way through the episode. All I can say is that so far this is some of the worst writing yet followed by even worse acting. I mean I think I've maybe seen a half dozen day time soaps in 40 years while I was sick as a dog and they all had this beat.

If you think there is anything here, read me in on Roger. He's not detached as it may seem. There's no script for him to follow. Draper, well he always does what he does and drowns fire after fire with a flammable substance.

The fat woman with the big tits wouldn't know what a character is. You know, Pete is the star here being that his character is being portrayed by a pretty decent talent all the while the story being weak. The Chevy scene was pathetic. Who the hell directs this show?

I hope the 2nd half picks up.

Zeke, this whole season has had a "there's something in the air" awkward, ungainly transitional feel to it.

I don't think it's bad writing, I think they are recreating the uncertainty of the times... as you know, the late 60's were so "What's next... how are we supposed to deal with all this craziness and form a coherent direction in life?" that it's infusing these characters and the story with a lost at sea vibe, IMO.

I've watched since Season 1 Episode 1...but after Sunday, I must say...

Jumping the shark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bring on Breaking Bad. Even if it turns out terrible, it will be the least season for that show.

No, there's no honesty in the acting. Draper has his moments and as I've said, Pete is putting down a pretty good character. Even Sally does a pretty god job of being the rebellious kid. But most of the rest of the cast wouldn't know a business office from a beauty salon.

If Draper was facing down a character played by Clint Eastwood, you'd see something happening in their eyes. AFA the current cast, they are vacant and I don't think the writing is good enough to actually call for that.

OMG, when what's his face was dumping Peggy, her reaction was worse than a CVS cashier when I don't have enough money.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Spot on.

You've been saying the same thing for the past few weeks I've been checking in on this thread....yet you still come back to it. Why? Are you expecting it to somehow materialize into something more in alignment with your standards? Is this show (and thread) an outlet for the inner Roger Ebert lurking inside you? I'm not being a jerk, I just want to know...why do you waste your time?

"It's all fun and games until someone gets shot in the face." I love Roger - has the best one liners. The short shot of Peggy's back a la Don Draper; the shot of the shadows as they approach Dick Whitman's childhood home. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I like it.

Don's been becoming somewhat of a liability to the firm and his "****ting the bed" with Hershey, as Roger so aptly put it, sealed his fate. They had to release him to get his **** together. Another thing that occurred to me watching the finale is that there are very few good men in the series! Bert Cooper seems to be the only man in the place with any kind of ability to use good judgment. It is a drama series though so bad judgment works better.

Loved the scene where Bob kicks Pete in the balls (in return) by making him try the Z/28 knowing Pete can't drive a stick. Well played sir.

Pete and his brother decide that splitting mommy's meager estate is better than blowing it all in attempting to prosecute the male nurse for throwing mommy off of the cruise ship. Nice.

Peggy, Peggy, Peggy. No one has ever told her that married men never leave their wives. Not in those days anyway. She must not have watched "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."

Lastly, no way would Draper ever spill his guts in front of a client and lose the chance at landing their business. No way he gets that far in the firm and then just blows a deal like that. That's where he finally lost Roger.

Let's hope we don't have to wait two years for the next season.

I guess I'm not that picky.

I enjoy the show and will miss it until it returns.

That said......can't wait until 'Dead' and 'Bad' start back up!

Well there were two good parts. The Austin Healey 3000 and the music at the end. The rest I am not sure about!

S*it! I missed it last night. Don's still in his la-la land state of mind. Hard to believe a guy with so much life and business mojo could go off on such a strange tangent last season and into this season. Never places a foot wrong and then suddenly s*its the bed professionally and is lucky to find his way back into his career. A little too weird for me. But, it is a drama series so drama it must be.

I've been watching. I'll be watching Madmen and Game of Thrones tonight. Got my martini ready for Madmen and some beer and popcorn handy for Game.

Madmen was on last night, Patrick. Unless you DVR'd it.

As far as Don going off the reservation - IMHO, he's a deep person intellectually speaking and with that type of persona anything can happen in a pressure environment.

I feel I can relate to a lot of his "adventures".
