So very sorry to hear of the loss of Lady and Sir Henry. Our four footed friends become so near and so dear that their loss leaves us utterly bereft. If we didn’t love them so and them, us, it would be so much easier.

Went to the son n d-law’s for thanksgiving in their first home. Their one year old and the youngest son’s family’s six month old daughter was too much for these two. Had to retreat to the crate....all on their own....I kinda felt like joining them[emoji848]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f00c33a395.jpg

This pic is of an owner reunited with his lost buddy during the Camp Fire here in Northern CA.

Came across it and had to share. There are so many more that haven’t been reunited yet.[emoji53]

Thanks, Bugs. The relationships we forge with our furry companions are so heartfelt - it's hard to put into words.

Best to you and yours....SmileWavy

I need some advice -

One of the local rescues has a hound mix, and she's adorable. They got her at 5 weeks old, raised her in a house with lots of other dogs, she's now about 6 months old and ready to go to a forever home. We're haven't had a hound before, and the foster mom says she's vocal, and also yodels in the morning. Is this going to drive us nuts? Also, what's your best guess of her breed? She's small, maybe 25-30 pounds right now. I think she might get to 50 pounds full grown. The only black on her is her tail.

billybek 12-03-2018 06:11 AM

She is adorable!
Just go get her....

Side note.
Anyone watching "Dogs" on Netflix?
Watched 3 episodes and have enjoyed them.

She looks like a sweetheart. Maybe the only way to find out if she's going to be a problem is to take her home and see how she behaves in a different environment. It would be nice to rescue her if she wasn't too much trouble. You might have to have an agreement to be able to return her if it doesn't work out. I don't know if there's training that would help with that or not. She might just outgrow it.

Here's some bloodhound scenes from Best in Show. Christopher Guest cracks me up!

I don't think the rescue has a return policy. They've disclosed what she's like. We're going to introduce her to our dog Wednesday night, and if it goes well we'll take her home Thursday. I'm off work Friday and the weekend, and my wife works this weekend so she's off Monday-Tuesday, so she'll have 5 days to acclimate to us and the house before we leave her home alone with the other dog.

I should also mention that when we checked her out on Sunday I nearly had my face eaten off by a vicious pack of pitbull mix dogs. However they're only 12 weeks old, so instead of ripping into my flesh there was a lot of licking instead. There's 5 left to adopt from a litter of 13.

Well, I have followed this thread forever and seen so much. But it is now my turn. Daisy, my magnificent Labrador was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and we are in the last phase of her life. I cannot think of her not being here, it is hard.

Get another. Had to after my golden of 17 years passed. Really tore me up. Only lasted 2 months before getting another.

Second golden got inoperable spinal cancer at 13. Had to put her to sleep when she couldn't control anything from about halfway back. Was taking care of my Mom with Dementia and she became more my Mom's dog than mine. Would only go for rides if Mom went and even slept with her. Mom got so upset she wouldn't get out of bed (very bad for dementia patients). So got a new golden puppy the next day. Wow! Getting that puppy realy woke Mom up from the dementia. Mom started doing more and remembering daily things better. She even cooked again, so she could feed the dog from her palate, but she stopped cooking 5 years earlier. She even remembered how to use the microwave to make herself tea.

Daisy looks like a sweetie. Very sorry to hear of her (and your) troubles.

I agree with Rutager, spoil that little doggy.

Baz 12-09-2018 06:31 PM

I'm so sorry, Dan......I know words cannot help but Daisy has had a wonderful life and will be waiting for you at the bridge. Please give her some big hugs from us and stay strong for your girl.

Has anyone ever done a long distance dog adoption? What is involved? It’s been a few months since Rexy died, and this gal has shown up a thousand miles away.

NutmegCarrera 12-10-2018 08:26 PM

Rockfan4 - Hounds are “special”. Either you like them or you don’t.
We’ve had 2 bassetts, and then there’s hank. Hank is Bassett / Beagle.
Best advice I can give is that they always are on lead (unless you’re o.k. With their nose getting the better of them...)

Hank tends to eat rabbit poop - which generally causes a bowel infection.

Hank also had a slipped disk in January. He recovered pretty well over the course of 2+ months. Pretty close to air cooled overhaul territory. Difference is that I couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of $$$ on a car....

Hank is a pretty special boy. And a really great friend to have around.

Just to follow up - we adopted the hound. She's been in our house about a week now and is adapting very well. She's very sweet when she's asleep, and a terror when she's awake, she's tall enough and coordinated enough to get her paws on the kitchen counter, silent as a ninja. You only know something's up when you hear things crashing to the floor.

She doesn't bark much at all, except to bark back at the neighbor dogs when they bark at her. She's afraid of the two behind our house, right now she runs back to the house when they bark at her.

billybek 12-14-2018 07:22 PM

She looks lovely.
Betcha you will never be disappointed by her....
Thanks for taking her on!

Sorry for your lose, I just love the frosted face of a senior pup.

Jcooper 12-15-2018 01:48 PM

Thanks, it was a hard blow....they are family, and these dogs are fiercely loyal and he was one of a kind.

My little guy is good at one thing...farting..

RKDinOKC 12-16-2018 01:45 AM

Find beef bones make dog farts the worst around here.

Tobra 12-16-2018 09:05 AM

How did the other two handle losing him?

I had one that would go out and lay where we buried her partner all the time. First day or two it was hard to get her to come in at night.

Best photo of why we do what we do. This dog, Radar, with his huge ears, came out of a kill shelter, a captured stray with bite wounds, and running out of time before being PTS. Look at him now in his loving home.

Life is good...

Well, it has been a bit over 24 hours and I have the ability to share that my Daisy passed peacefully last night, Friday December 28. Her tumor ruptured and she was gone in less than a hour. She was the best dog I ever knew. There is a big hole in our house, it is a bit too quiet.

My heart breaks for you. Just her kind face says what a wonderful girl she was. Hang in there the best you can as time will help. And if anyone says, And life moves on, I will personally be happy to come over and kick them in the nuts.

vash 12-30-2018 07:22 AM

Damn it. RIP daisy.

(That face!)

Danimal16 12-30-2018 09:35 AM

Thanks Guys. We knew she was on borrowed time. She went very quickly and peacefully. Here is one more photo that really captures who she is, from day one to her last breath.

Heartbreaking loss. Why do we all go through it time and again? Because the time we have with them makes the heartbreak, worth it.

Alfie now at 5 months. Like having a cartoon character living in our house.
